Audible streaming
« on: February 24, 2004, 09:03:37 pm »

1) Audible files still aren't playing over Media Server, and attempts to do so cause problems in MC.  In the .75 thread, John Gateley said he'd look into this last Monday.  Did anything ever come of this?

2) Cover art still does not display in the Track Info window of Playing Now when songs are played via Media Server, but it displays in all other views (3D visualizations, AW "Image" screen, etc.)

3)  WMA radio stations are still broken.

4)  Searching radio stations by speed is still broken -- the speed dropdown box has no effect on searches.

5)  3D visualizations are still quite buggy -- a few of them do not always properly wrap the cover art  image around the 3D object("3D text," for example, is often just grey text against the cover art background.)  Others, like tunnel, always work correctly.  Switching back and forth between the other 3D modes will usually get them to work correctly, but when the song changes the problem often reappears.

Nothing has changes in this area, so we think it's something with Audible's DRM system. (which tend to be quite finicky)

I'm not sure what "Audible's DRM system" refers to -- all I can say is that it worked with earlier versions of MC and now it doesn't.

That aside, the important question is whether or not you think you can fix it.  I've always used Media Server to listen to all my audio files, including Audible files. Are you guys still looking into this?

Thanks,

Larry

lalittle,
We have never streamed audible files with Media Server.  We may take a look at it sometime.

I don't understand why I so clearly remember using MS to stream Audible files if it has never been supported -- the only thing I can think of is that perhaps I was listenning to these files with a "direct connection" before I started using Media Server.  That aside, is this something that will be supported in the near future?   It's annoying to have to 1) change libraries in order to listed to Audible content and 2) retag all the audible files, which don't bring the tag changes with them when you access them from a different library.

On a related note, is there any way to transfer the tag changes on audible files from one system to another?  I have retaged dozens of audible files that are named very poorly in their native state, so it would help me a great deal if I could simply "export" and "import" these tag changes to a different library.  These files aren't all that easy to retag since I need to listen to the content to get the specific program info, which is left off of the default tag.

Thanks,

Larry
