Before I re tag my Audible files to something more friendly, is it OK to do so? Does tagging aa files present any problems with synching to iPod?
It's absolutely fine to retag audible files -- this is the first thing I do after downloading aa files and importing them into MC. The tag changes will be saved to the library, however, and NOT to the file like they are with mp3's. This, however, will not create any problems, and the iPod will organize the files based on these new tags. Just make sure to keep a backup of your library, since these tags will be lost if the library is lost and you'll have to tag them all over again.
Note also that you can transfer these aa tags between systems by exporting an mpl playlist, copying the files over to the new system, then importing the playlist into the other system (although you'll need to confirm that the path/s to the files is identical, and you'll have to edit the mpl playlist if it is not.) You will of course need to "license" the other system so that it can play these audible files.
