User defined fields in MC11
« on: September 10, 2004, 11:52:22 pm »

I am currently using MC10 but would like to upgrade to version 11 the only problem I am having is with my user defined fields.  previously in version 10 when I import a file that has a user defined field stored in tag, it will automatically add that to the fields view.  In MC11 that is not happening and when I add that field manually it is not recognizing the files through that field.  I will keep working on this but I am pretty sure that it should be adding the user defined fields from my files as MC10 does this.

Thanks,
Kain

I don't know if that's your problem but I think that if you imported the files before creating your custom fields in MC11, it will not read your custom tags.
You have to select your files and do a "Library tools / Update library from tags".
This will force MC to read again the tags and if the custom fields are correctly set, MC will read them and update the library.

I hope it's help,
David.

Thanks for the reply david I gave it a try but it still doesn't add the new user fields or see the info that should be stored in the tags.

Not sure is this is a bug or what since I haven't tried it with any other version of MC11.

Importing files never creates fields.

Your best bet is to just give MC 11 a copy of your MC 10 database so you don't lose anything.  Otherwise, create fields by the same name in your new MC 11 database.

So what would that entail exactly.  Is it possible to do a restore of a DB created in MC10 in MC11?  I guess i will find out in a second.

thanks matt

Worked perfectly, If I had known it would have been that easy I would have upgraded to MC 11 much sooner.  I may be stupid but the impression i got from the "you will lose all your settings" comments in the beta threads is that you would have to redo everything.  Not sure if anyone else has/had that impression, but I know that if you had said just backup and restore your library and you will be ready to go, I would have done it much sooner.

Thanks again matt.
