Silly question: What doees YABB stand for?
« on: September 09, 2004, 01:47:04 pm »

I've been sort of wondering...

"Yet Another something somethig" maybe?

While I'm at it. "J River"? does it refer to a river (the canoe logo would make me think so...) or to a person such as maybe "Joseph River"?

So many questions today. Too much time on my hands... With the tail end of Hurricane Frances hitting us in Montreal, it's raining cats and dogs so I've been on the computer most of day...

:-)

I 'think' it stands for "You And Betty Boop"

or perhaps, "Yugoslovian Ancestors Beat Box"

or even, "Yards of Accessorized British Bands"

But, I'm not really sure.

Too funny!

Funny thing, I decided to go see the www.jriver.com web site to try find an answer. We never get to see that one since we connect to musicex.com for MC information...

I was shocked to find out that they have been doing terminal emulation since 1982.

The reason I'm shocked is that I have been involved in the terminal emulation business since 1982 also!

Hi Michel,

At the bottom of this page, you should see a link to "YABB SE". Clicking on that link will explain the mystery.

What kind of stuff with terminal emulation?

Thank John.

I worked for Hummingbird, NetManage, Wall Data over the years. I guess Hummingbird would have been a little closest to your terminal emulation market. But they were stronger in the X Window market than in the UNIX terninal emulation.

Oups, I guess I didn't answer the question completely...

I was invlved in all sorts of terminal emulations: 3270 (IBM mainframes), 5250 (AS/400s), VTxxx, Burroughs, Web-to Host.... Pretty much all of them really :-)

I knew there had to be a simple story behind the name! Thanks Jim.
