Library server-invalid argument
« on: October 15, 2004, 03:32:44 pm »

I have a network with 3 desktop computers and 1 portable, using MC version 10 connecting to Mediaserver was no problem.
I upgraded to ver 11.0.99 and after connecting to Library server i recieve "An invalid argument was encountered" trying to play the files (MP3). I see all the files but can't play them. I tried on all the desktops with the same result (1 Win 2000 server and 2 XP SP1 all running same version of MC).

The portable can connect one time out of ten, most of the time it can't find any servers at all. I tried both auto port selection and to manually select different ports on all computers. The network is behind a hardware router so internally it shouldent be any problem with that.

I also tested the older Media server and i noticed that when it restarts gives the following error:

10/22/04 22:21:25 - bad port <>
10/22/04 22:21:25 - tcp_write failed error=10038
10/22/04 22:21:25 - bad version
10/22/04 22:21:26 - Stopped auto response thread.

Am I the only one? can't seem to find any info about this issue on the forum.

Library Server is very new.

What messages are showing up on the Library Server status page (under Plugins in the tree)?

You can't run both Library Server and Media Server on the same port.

Try setting an IP address on the client side instead of searching.

Non, as far as I can see, the only message is "Recieved request for library" nothing else.

On the server machine, on the left hand side of the screen, look for an entry called "Plugins" . It will be toward the bottom of the tree. Expand Plugins and you'll see an entry for LIbrary Server. Click on that, and the screen will show the status messages.

What's the path of the file you are streaming? On the server, right click on it, choose properties, and you'll see it. Please use copy-and-paste to show it here verbatim.

Thanks

I just installed the latest version (105) and I am now getting that same error.  I installed it on 2 of my computers first.   I can start MC on the client computer, it will find the server and download the library, but it will get the invalid argument error when I try to play a song.  My third computer still had an older version of MC and it will still connect to the media server and play.  As soon as I upgraded the third computer I get the same error.

Thanks,
Chad

(originally posted on MC 105 thread)

server (winXP SP1)

client 1 (winXP SP1): ok
client 2 (winXP SP2): ok
client 3 (win2K): an invalid argument was encountered
client 4 (another user on the server):  an invalid argument was encountered

All systems are using MC11.105 registered.

I tried also to uninstall and reinstall MC without success.

Iv'e been away for two days and was unable to continue testing, but now I reinstalled all the MC on all 4 computers to the latest 11.0.105 and runned the server again. Same problem. Server on Win 2000 server state (after invalid argument on client):

10/18/04 20:14:18 - Starting...
10/18/04 20:14:18 - Trying Port 80
10/18/04 20:14:18 - Starting Auto Detect beacon
10/18/04 20:14:18 - Running on Port 80
10/18/04 20:15:13 - Received request for library

I tried it the other way with server on the XP, same problem.

After recieving the invalid argument on the client trying to play the imported library, I'll get the same message if I try to open a local file or adding an url to open. The only way is to restart MC.

Any word on this?  I still can not use the media server since the last 2 updates.  I am not sure what I am doing wrong but this is the first time and upgrade caused my server to die.

Thanks,
Chad

Hi Chad,

Use this thread instead:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=24158

I'm working on a fix for some invalid argument problems.

If you could put more details about the crash (in the other thread) I'll try to figure out what's happening.
