Another Cover Art dilemma
« on: January 27, 2005, 03:19:48 am »

I know there have been numerous threads about cover art, but I couldn't find one that addressed the specific problem that I have.  I have two computers that I have MC10 installed on right now.  One has public internet access, the other is a secure system that does not.  I originally had MC9 on the one on the internet, then upgraded to 10, and all of my files (split between APE and MP3) were on a USB HDD.  I had album covers on every album in the library, I always use the option to store cover art inside of the file.  When I ripped my CDs to APE, I was automatically able to download some cover art, some of it I had to get manually after the fact.  For some reason, some cover art was stored inside of the files, but I couldn't get it to store inside of all of the files (they were stored in the default cover art directory instead).  No problem though, as long as I can get it to work.  I copied the contents of the USB HDD to a second one, and copied the contents of the media center\data\coverart directory into another folder on the second USB HDD.  I then took the second HDD to the computer that is not on the net, added all of the music to the library, and copied the cover art directory contents into the default local cover art directory.  I then did a quick find on all of the imported music that did not have cover art.  I expected that every album would have cover art on it when browsing my library, but I was still missing about two dozen covers out of about 14-1500 albums.  I looked in the cover art directory to make sure they copied over and were named right, but I couldn't find them.  I went to the original computer, and the files were not in the cover art directory.  So I would suspect that they are stored inside of the file, but then I have to ask, why don't they show up automatically on the other computer?

I could just manually find the covers on the web and save the files to a drive, then carry them back over, but I'd rather be able to automate it as I anticipate replacing both of these systems in the next 8 months and don't want to have to jump through hoops when I reinstall on new computers.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I don't post here often, but I love MC. I wasn't overwhelmed when I first started using it, but the more I used it, the more I got to like it.  Just can't get over this one bug.

On the ones that seem missing on the first PC, check to see if there are cover art files in the directory for each album or if there are folder.jpg files there.

I can't find the cover art anywhere.  I even did a search of my whole computer for *.jpg files, and didn't find them, so I'm guessing they are part of the file itself.  But the other computer doesn't pick it up.  I don't know, maybe I'm doing something wrong?

why don't you look at the "Image" field and see if it is in the file or not

if it is not it wll have a file path, if it is in the file it will tell you so

you will need to add the image field to view it
