Cannot connect to Media Server
« on: December 27, 2003, 09:59:45 am »

When I try to access the Media Server from one of my systems to another, it locates it fine, but then I get this message.

"The handle is in the wrong state for the requested operation."

When I click OK, it says "Failed to download the Media Library."

Then it gives me the correct URL for my server, but just stops. Both my MC versions are 9.1.316. And it had worked on earlier builds, but I cannot remember the last. Any help is appreciated.

Just wondering My Media Server Is Version 1.0.194

Using MJ 10.0.24

Is yours the same version?

if not maybe in the MC 10 version something may have been fixed.

Hi Pete,

I've never seen this message before. Any ideas on what changed between working and non-working?

John,

The only thing that has changed are the updates to ver. 9.1, which I do about every month or so. No network changes. Thanks.

Has this bug returned?

I'm experiencing it when I try to link two Media Center 11's.
(Build 177 on both sides).

Now, I'm also running it thru a masquerading VPN, so let me know if there is any inherit issues with this..

MC11 does not support Media Server, it has Library Server instead. Are you using Library Server?

Yes, I am using Library Server. (didn't read the subject of this post close enough.. but this was the only post that showed up with the error message I am seeing in Library server.)

To verify that its not the VPN that I'm going through, I'll check with a laptop on the same LAN that the Library server is running on tonight.

Are you using Search or entering the IP address? With the VPN you may need to enter the IP address.

Did you try the test on the LAN?

Yes, and the PC on the LAN gets the same error message.

I also just tried "reversing the connection" of the 2 PC (making the home system try to load the Library on the work syste) and get the same error.

Here's the full error message:
Code: [Select]
Failed to connect to a server.

Reason: The handle is in the wrong state for the requested operation

URL: http://172.16.19.200:8080/GetLibrary

I've been doing "upgrade installs" for all of the builds, do you want me to try a "full/clean" re-install?

another piece of info:
The Library support didn't "just" break.. its been broken for awhile for me. So the problem didn't just start with build 177.

I don't remember the specific build where it broke. :(

What happens if you type the whole GetLibrary URL above into a browser?

You were working fine with MC11 at some point, and then it broke?

Found the "cause"..
If I Enable Authentication, then it doesn't work.

Without Authentication, the Library server works correctly.

Library Server is still broken when "Enable Authentication" is enabled.
(just checked/verified with build 211)
