FreeDB maybe?
« on: October 11, 2002, 07:38:26 am »

Hello,

Have you guys considered adding FreeDB support to MJ now that CDDB is gone?

I know there is YADB support, but I have to tell you it's really missing quite a bit.  I've probably run into a dozen CD's that were missing in the last week of ripping alone.  (Remy Zero, Bob Schneider, Alex Lloyd, etc)  While I don't mind contributing, that starts to get a little crazy. :'(

Anyway, FreeDB is a CDDB replacement that is fully GPL'd and I know it works quite well.  (CDex, Nero and other things I've used in the past use it)  There is more info at:

www.freedb.org

Hello!

Are you referring to YADB option?  If that really uses FreeDB data (and more) then I'm wondering why CDex/FreeDB located stuff like Remy Zero and others but the YADB option in MJ doesn't.  ?  Or am I missing the point or an option.  :-/

Yes.

If it is a new CD Maybe thats why.

Also Gateley is still working thru the database, and recently fixed a bug in the look up. i am not sure if that fix is in the latest version yet.

if your not using the most current version that may have an effect also.

Nice picture you toke to  put on your posts
More or less:YADB is a few weeks old FreeDB data.
You may not get records not in FreeDB at this time.
Beside this i do think there is a small problem somewhere concerning getting infos from YADB.

MJ works ONLY with YADB,not cdbb orFreeDB.

When you try FeeDB to find a cd not on YADB,the infos go to the folder'cdplayer.ini'
It mean that if latter you put the cd n MJ,you will get the info from this folder,no need to go to YADB.
If you want to enter the infos in YADB,there is an easy way to do so:
When the cd is in MJ and you have the infos[artist-album-songs],from the folder 'cdplayer.ini, right click on the cd in the left tree, right click and click'upload info to YADB"

Like it the cd would be in YADB ,for you and others

Thanks.. I've been adding things to YADB a bit, but was more or less wondering why it seemed to be missing so many.  Take for example my one CD from Remy Zero.  It was released over a year ago and is in FreeDB.  But it hasn't made it to YADB at this point.   I'm just running in to more and more like that.  It's not a big deal though, I can type.  :D  I just have another 800 or so to rip.  :-/

If you try to get infos from FreeDB,you would be able to upload without typing ,as a told you.

Of great help to make YADB very good:
Post a list of the cds you do not find on YADB.
Not here,open a new topic
Have a good week-end

it seems that other Posts reference the mj8 option for CDDB (AKA Graceland). why can i use cddb and others not?

Has anyone tried to register through a cddb web search and use the option? i have the cddb set in options and i'm off to the races every time. of course, i've been using it for a long time, both with MJ and other rippers. Does that matter?

Moonshine,

Please e-mail me at gateley @ jriver.com with details (exact artist, exact title, whether this disc is original or a copy, and approixmiate time you did a lookup). I'm looking for cases like this to make sure nothing is falling through the cracks.

Thanks,

j
