MC 11.0.266 RC Setup exits, no install
« on: May 14, 2005, 12:35:00 pm »

Still have this problem.  MC11 setup proggie exits (giving no error message) and without even getting to 100% on the progress bar.  MC10 works fine as does all my other software.  Any body got any clue why this appears to be only happening to me?

I installed a pretty early 11 version months ago and uninstalled it a couple of days later (as I decided to stick with 10 for the time being) - could that be it?

There was a similar problem about a week or two ago.  Try a search for rar here or try reading old posts.  The problem is that sometimes the unzip process fails.

Temp file space shortage could also be the cause.

Here's the thread:

He found that running installwizard from his temp folder worked.

MC 11.0.292 RC Setup exits, no install
« Reply #3 on: June 13, 2005, 07:54:12 pm »

MC RC 110292 - Still have the same problem.  I do not have any issues at all whatsoever with any other prog and am not short of disk space.  I have tried executing the installer from just about everywhere I can think of................. including 'temp',  to no avail.  As mentioned, MC10 is fine and working.

Has no one else come across this?

Winzip and WinRAR work fine BTW, as do games, MS Office, installing/removing other apps etc.  In general I keep my computer rock solid...........

Try extracting the files from the Media Center package using WinRAR.

Then run "InstallWizard.exe"  Hopefully it'll do the trick.

We've heard this before, but haven't been able to reproduce it.

We think some global-hook program like a virus checker, spam blocker, actual virus, etc. is causing the problem.  If you figure anything out, please let us know.

Thanks.

If it's any use to you - I currently use.......

Zonealarm Pro (5.5.094.000)
AVG Antivirus (7.0.300 free edition)
Lavasoft Ad Watch SE (Came with Ad-Aware Pro 1.05)
Giant Anti-spyware (1.0.244)

All are kept upto date (in terms of definitions).

Try disabling them and run setup again.  Then enable them one-by-one to see where the problem lies.  Sometimes the cure is worse than the disease with programs that use global-hooks.
