Feature Request: Media Editor
« on: July 08, 2005, 02:57:39 pm »

This is a great little applet, very quick and easy to use, but it's in need of updating.  Here are some minor items that might actually be bugs:

1.  You can drag-and-drop tracks from MC into the Media Editor, and it seems to work great with WAV files, which appears to be its internal format.  However, it's a oneway trip with FLACs, and I'm guessing other non-WAV formats.  If you drag-and-drop the FLAC, it decodes it to WAV just fine, but it gets lost on the save function.  You must point the file name to it's old filename, and then select the non-wav format, as if you were saving it to a new name.  Is there any way so that a FLAC (or other non-WAV) can save transparently, just like a WAV?  (I'm guessing it would need a script for a 2-step process:  save, and encode.

2.  You can drag-and drop tracks from windows explorer into the Media Editor, and it works great.  However, if your track isn't imported yet into MC, editing and saving still doesn't import it.  Why not?  Is there any way to put an "import" button on the thing, or a preference to always do that?

Thought I'd give this a nudge, especially considering the overwhelming interest in it  Any of you who may have delayed responding in order to let the crowds thin down, now's your chance!

Joe,
You have a bit of an Australian sense of humor.  I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

FLAC support in MC is a bit awkward but other work has a higher priority.

When we get started on the next version, please pipe up.

JimH--
No doubt there are more pressing priorities, especially considering how popular this idea is.  However, I would like to point out that it might not be a FLAC thing, it might be a script thing between MC and ME.  One gets the feeling that it used to work.  If so, that would make it a "bug" and put it back on the table, so to speak.

BTW--I enjoyed your CO pix.  I used to live in the Rockies, when I was younger and my priorities were more properly aligned.  Couldn't help noticing in one of the pix, just at the margin, there appears to be the right rear quarter panel of a 308 gtb, just poking into the picture.
