Missing fields in smartlist presets
« on: February 15, 2006, 04:26:23 pm »

Hi!
Just a quick question; Why are there missing fields when you browse fields in the smartlist search and ordinary search?

What I'm thinking about is, among others, [Last Played] and [Date Imported].

It feels strange that those fields are available in some areas and not in others, but since this one has been here a long time, I thought there was a thought behind.

Thanks!

I have noticed this too, its not a bug...

Let's say you have a new album that isnt imported yet, what happens is those fields get updated when you listen in playing now. If you forget to import that album before closing MC, those fields will be lost since they are not set to wirte to the file by default.

Now when you import that album later, those fields will be empty.

Thanks for your reply hit_ny!

Hm...interesting theory...but...Why "hide" the fields there? Take [Date Imported] for example. This field doesn't change when a file is played, no harm done, right? And what about fields like [Date Created] and [Date Modified]? These are tags used by Windows, why couldn't you have them here?
And why can you get a Preset (from the same menu) with the item "Listened To Today" if you're supposed to be protected against [Last Played]? It really doesn't make sense.

As I recall a couple of whole versions back (like MJ time), this menu appeared because there was alot of talk about wizards helping the users using smartlists. And my own theory is that this menu doesn't change automatically when fields were added to MC internally, only when user defined fields are added.

Could this be it? Anyone from JRiver have a thought? Matt?

Currently date type fields aren't shown because there isn't a slick wizard for them.

Hopefully in a future version...
