loseless format for ipod
« on: May 24, 2006, 01:28:31 pm »

Hi,

Is there any loseless format that is supported by ipod (60GB version) that MC 11.1 can encode in?

I have my entire library in Monkey's audio which is not supported by ipod. I have transferred many songs in 128 or 184 kbps mp3 - but I find the quality unsatisfactory. I can increase that to ~500 kbps or use ogg or other format but I really want to transfer it loseless.

Any suggestions?

thanks,
Osho

Rockbox seems to work well enough (supports ogg, flac, wav, etc) and works with MC11's generic mass storage support. It's a replacement firmware for the ipod (4th gen and newer) that you can have on your ipod side by side with the original firmware and select either on power on. Do a search on rockbox here for the last 60 days and you'll see some interesting posts and links. Maybe you can push the authors to include APE support. That would be cool!

Sadly it doesn't look like APE's happening with Rockbox.  :(
Rockbox is GPL, which despite Matts valiant efforts at creating an easy going jamaican style open
source license, is apparently non compatible....

I'm really starting to think that GNU == General Noose Underdevelopment.
