Can't Get Omnifi to work on UPnP anymore
« on: November 24, 2006, 02:16:04 pm »

Hey out there,
MC 12 looks great! I love the interface improvements!  One problem I having though:
My Omnifi DMS 1 which worked AWESOME on MC 11, won't work on MC 12.  I have the settings identical to my setup on MC11, but no diceon MC12.  Is this a possible bug, or should I try something else?

Quick reply appreciated!
Thanks,
Aaron

I am running 12.0119, is that the latest?  If it is, I still can't get it going.
Anything else I should do?
Thanks,
Aaron

make a sniff with ethereal (www.ethereal.com) and send it to me. I'll see what's going on...

I feel like an ignoramous, but I am not sure how to run a 'sniff'.  I am sure Ethereal works fine, but I have wireless connection (802.11b).  I can't really see paying 198 bucks for AirPcap (their reccomeended software for wireless).

By the way, here is what is on the server itself lists in its log:

11/27/06 19:28:37 - JRiver UPnP Server Version 1.0.41 starting...
11/27/06 19:28:39 - UPnP Media Server Device started on port 2298
11/27/06 19:28:39 - Running

I have the UPnP server set as follows (note this is the same set up I used with MC 11):

convert audio if necessary
MP3 encoder
No specified TCP port (I tried specifying, but had no luck either way)
Receiver: Omnifi DMS1 (I also tried automatic detection with no results)

At that point MC11 would begin asking for device descriptions, etc.  My omnifi would show the server, and I'd be off and running.
Thanks for sticking with me.  What else can I do?

(Sniffing is actually pretty esoteric)

You should be able to sniff without the AirPCap. Turn promiscuous mode off, and it should work.
Technical details: the internet traffic is encapsulated into ethernet packets for wired, or 802.11
packets for wireless. I don't care about the packaging, whether ethernet or 802.11, just about
the internet traffic. So the free installation of ethereal should work.

Make sure promiscuous mode is off: some wireless drivers won't show any packets in promiscuous mode...

Hey John,
Thanks for your patience with me.  I just tried MC12.0121, and the UPnP works GREAT!  I can't get over the incredibly high level of support you guys offer.  I have been a user since the days of Media Jukebox 8, and have always looked forward to your latest and greatest.  Love the product and I look forward to using it for a long time to come.  ;D
