Flac+SRC+Burwen+Electri-Q+Convolver?
« on: December 24, 2006, 03:44:26 pm »

I'm currently using Foobar on a 1.6 dual core laptop with a 500gb FLAC media library to feed an Maudio Transit device (an Empirical Audio USB to coax converter) via ASIO. (That feeds my home theater processor via a coax input.)

I really like the SRC upsampler that Empirical provided: takes 16/44.1 and converts to 24/96; greatly improves sound quality IME

I'd like to try the Burwen Bobcat resampling/PEQ software upstream of the SRC upsampler, but that requires a DirectX connection.
(Link: http://www.burwenbobcat.com/Pro_Products.html )

I'd also like to use a minimum phase parametric EQ like Electi-Q (A plug in works in Winamp:  http://www.aixcoustic.com/index.php?id=3 .  Not sure if this is a directX plug in or not.)

I'd also like to experiment with Convolver software to do room correction, but that's for a later day!

Will JRiver support all of: (a) a large FLAC library; (b) ASIO output; (c) SRC plug in; (d) Bobcat via directx; and later; (e) a high end PEQ plug in like Electi-Q; and (f) convolver software?

Thanks.

MC will support ASIO and libraries of several hundred thousand files.  FLAC support is available with scthom's plug-in on this board.

DirectX plug-ins can be used.  I'm not familiar with the specific plug-ins you mention, but you may not need them.

Jim, is there some place that lists / describes the available plug ins?  I'm particularly interested in locating an audiophile grade parametric EQ so that I can remove an old Behringer 2496 hardware device from my chain.  Shouldn't need it now that I'm using a PC front end.

Thanks.

Best to start with MC as it is and build out from there if you like it.

Sorry, but there are others who know lots more about plug-ins.  You might read posts by Alex B to see what you can learn.

But using the program is the fastest.

You're the second person to mention the Burwen Bobcat
plugin in as many months.  A google search reveals
nothing on it, from audiophile sites or otherwise.

The website is franky attroascious (neh I can't spell that word!)
And they want you to part with $400 without a demo.

You must know something I don't?!
 :)

Edit: OK there's actually a lot of reviews popped up since I last looked.
Maybe I just didn't search for it properly.  Not many seemed favourable however.  :-\

Mr ChriZ ... one review of the Burwen software by a well regarded publication here:

http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue28/burwen.htm

Mark Levinson, who has built some of the best audiophile equipment over the last twenty years (my first audiophile preamp was his ML2a, which was amazing at the time), recommended the product highly, which is something rare for him.

I'm still looking for a minimum phase parametric EQ plug in and a convolver plug in (unless somehow plug ins made for Foobar or Winamp will usually work ok in JRiver, in which case there are several good ones to choose from.)

Convolver is available as DirectX so it works with MC just fine.  I have tried it in the past, so I know it works (or at least used to).
