Media Center 12.0.185
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:10:58 pm »

This is the latest version of MC 12.0.  Any MC12.0 license will work with it.  Please post bugs here.  Please start a new thread for anything requiring discussion.  Non-bug posts will be deleted or moved.

This latest build (usually safe) of MC12.0 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/MC12/MediaCenter120185.exe

12.0.185 (03/02/07)

1. Fixed: Pix01 wasn't resizing large images on upload.
2. Fixed: Pix01 allowed typing in the gallery selection box.
3. Fixed: After creating a new smartlist, the tree won't start in-place editing of the name.
4. Changed: After a Pix01 upload, the created playlist isn't automatically shown in the Action Window.
5. Changed: Pix01 action window blinks when created.
6. Fixed: Pix01 setting conflict with the send to gallery page.

12.0.184 (03/02/07)

1. Changed: Improved messaging when using the "move disk files" option with regards to when and how it messages about removing empty folders.
2. NEW: Sorting in library views is stored in the view scheme search so that there aren't two places to specify sorting. (and so Theater View, UPnP, etc. always use the same sorting)
3. NEW: Panasonic .RAW files should now decode.
4. Fixed: Assorted Pix01 bugs.
5. Changed: Filename sorting now uses the same smart mixed numbers + text sorting that other string sorting uses.
6. Changed: Sorting of children of a view scheme wouldn't always honor the parent's sorting in Theater View.
7. Changed: When creating a new tab, it starts in the location specified in startup options.
8. Changed: Reworked how view tabs look in the Noire skin.
9. Changed: Reworked digtial TV recording code.

12.0.183 (03/01/07)

1. Changed: Improved volume slider handling for multiple zones when mixing playback types.
2. Changed: Video playback (with Direct Show) now provides what mixer line it's using so the volume slaves nicely to different lines when switching zones.
3. Fixed: Digital TV's Color Controls (ProcAmp settings) were messed up in recent builds.
4. Fixed: "Active Movie Window" was opened when trying to recover from digital TV recording graph failure.
5. Fixed: Controlling the volume for Vista SPDIF and headphone lines would not work properly.
6. Fixed: Volume control for devices with very long names that overflow Windows mixer names wouldn't always work properly.
7. Changed: Changed how it looks when picking what sound card to use for DirectShow playback.  Now you configure the current zone only.  Switch zones to configure that zone.
8. Fixed: If DVD failed to play, later configuring DVD options would not work properly.
9. NEW: Added support for Enhanced Video Renderer (EVR) to DVD playback for use under Vista.  (experimental)

12.0.182 (02/28/07)

1. Changed: Revised how tab naming works in library views.
2. Changed: Media Center is more forgiving of badly formatted podcast dates.
3. Fixed: Podcast dates using GMT timezone were off by 4 hours.
4. Changed: Roku now display international characters (in UPnP server).
5. NEW: Wiki is in the Help menu.
6. Fixed: Corrupt WAV file caused importing to loop forver.
7. NEW: ATI HDTV Wonder digital TV device will record to dvr-ms format if ATI MPEG Multiplexer filter can not be loaded.
8. Changed: Digital TV handles recording graph failure more gracefully.
9. Fixed: On Vista certain video would play sound only when VMR9 is used.
10. Changed: YUV Mixing Mode is no longer used on VMR9 in video playback.
11. Changed: Added more logging to podcast updating code to find possible slowdowns.
12. Fixed: DVD playback menu selection wouldn't work nicely on Vista. (and possibly with some decoders)
13. NEW: Reworked how DVD playback handles filter selection. (can pick renderers, will error when picking something the can't be used instead of silently using the wrong thing, etc.)

12.0.181 (02/27/07)

1. Fixed: TV time-shifting failed when media type had no format block.
2. Fixed: CD burning could incorrectly complain about "no rights" if all service plugins were disabled.
3. Fixed: Double-clicking an image in the files list below grouping items to show it fullscreen, and then returning wouldn't preserve the scroll position.
4. Changed: More DVB-T TV tweaks on audio rendering.
5. NEW: Pix01 options page now includes the ability to choose a template.
6. NEW: Pix01 templates slightly modified.
7. Fixed: Pix01 default should now be "noire".  (Mean it this time.)
8. NEW: Pix01 allows video.
9. NEW: Tabbed navigation has close buttons on the tabs.
10. NEW: Tabbed navigation has an empty tab at the far right to easily open a new tab.
11. NEW: Tabbed navigation integrates the pieces from the current view header, so that it doesn't take any additional vertical space. (still a work in progress)

12.0.180 (02/26/07)

1. Fixed: CD Labeler could show an error when closing.
2. Fixed: When single disc overburn was selected, MC would still ask for a second blank disc following successful burn.
3. NEW: Added search suffix 'w' for search dates for weeks. (i.e. [Date]=<3w)
4. Fixed: In some cases, deleting a playlist could cause a crash if it was also being accessed by a background thread.
5. Fixed: A couple of default handheld smartlists didn't work properly.
6. Fixed: For transcoded multi-disc burns, the amount of data per disc was not calculated correctly.
7. Fixed: MyGal should now honor the title.
8. Changed: MyGal renamed Pix01.
9. NEW: Pix01 now remembers your password (if you set it to do so).
10. Fixed: Selecting the create Pix01 gallery now actually creates a Pix01 gallery rather than whatever you had last set in the old dialog.
11. NEW: Pix01 now has a "make public" option that lists the gallery on the Pix01 page.  (Or will.  Don't know if that is going yet.)
12. NEW: Pix01 AW now has a option link.  (Lets you reset the Remember password flag.)
13. NEW: Password login box now has a "forgot password?" button to help the user retrieve a forgotten password.
14. Fixed: Assorted Pix01 setting issues.  (New bugs almost certainly introduced.)
15. NEW: Searches can use friendly style durations to search like [Duration]=>3:30.
16. NEW: Searches of dates can use dates formatted like [Date]=3/27/2007.
17. NEW: Added the number suffix mb for searches. (so [File Size]=>5mb does something logical)

Heh, just as I was writing the following post for the previous release, you've gone and posted a new build! Unfortunately, the same problem exists in .185

Got a crasher here...

1) Choose a file
2) Choose 'tag' from the Action window
3) Click once in the 'Notes' tag and make some changes.
4) Press 'TAB' to exit editing the notes.
5) The next click crashes MC for me

I can't think of any exacerbating circumstances. Using the default skin. Files are on a mapped network drive. I have all fields showing in the tagging window. System info follows...

Best,
Brad

I can't duplicate this.  Can you start a new thread and provide any more details?  File type, for example.

I think I found a playlist group bug.  I have playlists Sync: 5 Stars, etc.  About 5 different playlists that start with Sync: and end with their description.  This lets them sort next to each other.

I created a new group called Sync.  It seems to pull in all playlists that start with Sync: even if they aren't under the playlist (when I click the group).  I like that the group will display the playlists below it (and combine the results) but it also shows the other ones as I described.

If I remove the Sync: portion of the playlists not under the group, they stop showing up.  Perhaps the playlists are being stored with the playlist group "colon" as a way to distinguish between groups and then my scheme interferes with MC's core storage technique...lol.  whatever

Easy work around but just thought I'd bring it up.

P.S. Why do I seem to see two JimH's throughout the forum with different profile images but the same (or similar) posting numbers?  I also see two listings in the user list in YABB.  How is that possible anyway?  What is going on?

Addition: I have another minor request.  When I rate a song in the upper bar area, the main window (if it shows the playing song) doesn't update until you either move the mouse over it or switch tracks.  It's a minor thing but the reverse does not occur (rate in library--the title bar updates).

There is still the issue of MC trying to save ripped DVD on drive c: even so a different drive is specified under file locations.

It would be great if there could be different file location / file naming capabilities depending on media type.

Otherewise, great improvements again with this build, particulary on tabbed views. Makes split views pretty much redundant.

Many thanks

The area below the tabs is minimized in my configuration and the thumbnail zoom slider only appears after maximizing and then minimizing this area.

edit: since I'm here, this has been probably requested by someone else before, but could we get MC to remember the content of the tabs from one session to the next. It was really a great improvement when you introduced this for the right click command list, and I think it would be even better in this case.

I love seeing how a new feature (like tabs) essentially brings a pile of new feature requests.  I also like having access to a new build more frequently than once a month.

I found a problem.  This appears to be by-design but I don't think it's a good idea.  When tabs are used, I like how the "settings" or dropdown menu is actually apart of the tab.  But I don't like how I no longer see the underlined Reset selection.  Perhaps a symbol could be added to the left of the text that would appear when Reset selection used to appear and it would reset the selection.  I used this feature all the time.

Addition: When tabs are on and I return to rows (with no tabs created), bad things happen.  The transparent bar goes under material and things move up.  The interface isn't quite updating correctly.

After reinstalling this version I've got an error about Power User Privileges.  ? ?

Could someone tell what this message is?

After that program is closing!! I have to go back to an earlier version.  :'(

I wonder if you're using a lower level user than administrator or something like that.  Perhaps you don't have sufficient privileges.

The 'Slim' mini-skin doesn't have right-click menu to change options such as inactive transparency.

6. Fixed: For transcoded multi-disc burns, the amount of data per disc was not calculated correctly.

For me I'd say "nearly fixed": now the image for the first disc gets calculated down to 716M instead of 832M. That is still a little too much. :'(

Conversion setting was MP3, VBR Quality high. Sources are all FLAC with highest compression (Quality 8 ).

You change the slim skin's transparency in the main MC options.  It's in there!

filters in the search area will carry on from one tab to the other. This doesn't work too well in certain situations. Example: let's say I have two Playing Now tabs open. In the first one, I do a Locate>Artist on the song currently playing. I look for an album by that artist, right click > Add to playing now. All good so far, except that [Artist]=[Whatever] is still in the search bar, and is still there if I change tab: if I go to the second tab, my playing now list only include the songs by that artist. If you followed my explanation I think you'll find this as counter-intuitive as I did... In short, I think these filters should be tab dependant.

I can confirm koolmees's problem - I have the same problem. The program was working well then i got a BSOD and a reboot. My library got messed up somehow (smartlists are gone as well as thumbnails). If I now run auto import the import stops in the middle of building missing thumbnails with that same error message. Clicking OK is followed by a MC crash.

Using version 12 without updates gives no problem. So I think it is a problem of new version 185.

Hello

Since 12.0.185, when I create a shcem "date imported, name" or "date created, name", the names does not appear in the left column even if there is a little arrow on the left of the date

And the the names does not appears more in de right pannel in the case of "pane" display". If I choos "date imported" or "date created" for display, i can see the detail of the names

in 12.0.179, it was O.K.

BSOD's are a hardware / driver problem.

However, remember that MC makes automatic library backups each day (if you run MC) that you can restore from if something does ever go south with your hardware.

I'm confused why I can't view my View Schems & various sub-schemes with the drop down arrow in the tabs; I am stuck using the tree in order to navigate my various schemes.

I miss this feature too.  I have been moving the splitter all the way to the left edge of the MC 12 window and clicking on the view scheme name to select a different view scheme from the dropdown list.

1. I can confirm this: "The area below the tabs is minimized in my configuration and the thumbnail zoom slider only appears after maximizing and then minimizing this area."

2. Last few builds I am seeing what I think was an old bug. Switching between Audio/Images/Video but most often in playlists MC is locking up. Some thread is hanging with cpu at 0% I am seeing this on a daily basis, and it always occurs as a result of switching views by using the tree.

EDIT - I finished this initial posting, returned to MC, click on a different Tab and MC just hangs, locked up completely.

Hi There,

I have been using MC since v10, but over time my needs have changed. I love MC especially the integration with other systems such as Netremote.

I have recently moved and the new house doesn't have room for a monitor to control the music from, so I have been using the theatre view much more. I like it, but it is no match for Media Portals equivalent. However media portal is deficient in every other area...

VideoLan is better for playing back just about everything without complaining, but has no library...

I have to commend JR for producing a cracking product, but as with any product... it never meets everybodies needs and there is always work to do. It's a trade of, simplicity and ease of use, or complexity and power. With the theatre view it could meet the simplicity side of things as long as there was a bit more configuration available, to bring it in line with MediaPortal... the complex and power side of things is already there... so the only thing left would be the ability to playback without complaining like VideoLan(VLC).

They are my thoughts... views anyone?

This is a great product! Glad that I tumbled across this. I am trying out 12.0.185 and planning to buy it. I do have a question and this could be a missing support in Media Center: Media Center 12 does not allow selecting of different audio (language) stream with some DVD. My dvd collection consists of mostly Karaoke DVDs, and the way to turn off the vocal is to select a different audio stream. WMP, Power DVD and a number of other DVD players allow the selection. I'll be glad to provide the IFO file if needed.

Thanks,
Liem

During DVD playback, try a right-click.  Language should be in the menu.

I purchased MC12 when it was still beta, and it worked perfectly on my Windows XP machine. A few days later, I upgraded the machine to Windows Vista--a totally clean install. When I reinstalled that beta version of MC12, everything worked fine...for a while. A few weeks ago, I downloaded and installed MC 12.0.180, and immediately ran into problems: it could not load my user library, even from backup. Even though I was logged in as an administrator, I chose to run the program "as an administrator" anyway, and still encountered the same problem.

Today, I downloaded MC 12.0.185. It "stops working" (according to Vista) and crashes completely if I attempt to do *anything* with it...open a file, import anything into the library, or merely select the File menu. It is completely nonfunctional.

My relevant system stats are:
Processor: Athlon DualCore
Memory: 2GB
SoundCard: SoundBlaster X-Fi Platinum
* All latest drivers and OS updates have been installed; the machine is 100% up-to-date.

If you require any further information, just ask.

I really hope we can figure out why MC12 simply will not run on my machine. It *used* to run perfectly...when it was in beta. I have no clue what might have happened, but I *think* the problem is on my end. MC12 is by far my favorite media player EVER, but at present it is completely useless to me if it can't even stay open for five seconds.

Pegritz,

Try uninstalling, rebooting, and reinstalling.

What you're seeing isn't normal.  MC works well with Vista, so something else is happening.
