Tag saving broken with FLAC
« on: June 27, 2007, 06:20:56 am »

Not sure when this started but I have just noticed that my tags are no longer saving to the files?  All of my library fields are set to "Store In Tags", and have been working this way for years.  Now all of a sudden the fields are no longer saving into the tags...  All of my files are FLACs.

edit:  The build (.251) on my girlfriends PC is saving tags, but my build (.267) is not.

Thoughts?

Are your flac plug-ins up to date?  Please check the third party board.

We're both using the same FLAC input plugin...

If I change a tag on an mp3 file it is also NOT saved...  my mp3 plugin is configured to save tags as per the MC help file...

Cheers,

Check for read-only files, and also Options > General > Update tags when file info changes

Bingo!  That was it, thanks Matt.

Did you intentionally disable that setting at one point, or was it an accident?

We could show a "Tagging Is Disabled" warning (with a no show again) box, but I'm not sure if that'd help or not.

Thanks.

I suspect I recently disabled it.  It is under the "Importing and Tagging" section and the implication I took was that this meant updating library tags when the file tags had changed...

I always import via shell integration menus, and often from a root folder, eg the artist, rather than specific albums, thus often running the import process of multiple albums, some of which will already be imported.  And because my girlfriend uses the same library there is a chance she could have written tags to "my" previously imported files - I disabled this option thinking it would stop my library updating from her changes.  But clearly this "Tagging" option affects save tags to files and tags from files and has nothing to do with importing, even though it's under the same heading?

I therefore think it would be helpful to separate the two entries to remove this confusion?
