problems with podcast downloads
« on: October 15, 2007, 07:34:03 pm »

Hi -

I'm new to this forum, but have been using MC for quite since version 11 and have been loving it!

However, I've recently been experiencing a problem with podcast downloads.  I have several feeds setup and have been using this feature for about 4 months or so.  Recently, when episodes have been downloaded, I get a yellow splotch icon with a red x in the center.  I remember I used to get this when the file was just downloaded and then after several seconds, it was replaced with a note icon.  Now, for some reason, it never is replaced and I can't play the downloaded file any longer.  When I try I get this error:  "Media Center was unable to play any of the files.  Please make sure that the path in Media Library points to the right location and that the files are not being filtered by Access Control."

I have not updated anything with the media library - it remains set to default.

Any clues?  What is this crazy yellow splotch icon supposed to represent?

Thanks,
Igzabether

Are you still using MC11?  If so, please try MC12.

All podcasts or some?

Do you have a link to a feed that won't work?

If they're video, it could be a DirectShow problem.

sorry i didn't put enough info in the first email:

i've upgraded to 12.0.338

it appears to be happening on some podcasts, not all.  however, all podcasts at the moment are not working.

the file does appear in my podcast folder in the base music folder during the download, but then gets deleted (or at least is not moved to the destination folder).  i deleted the destination folder as a test (in this case ~\podcast\Marketplace Money), reloaded the feed, then tried downloading another episode and the file downloaded, but then got deleted.  the destination folder never got recreated with the just-downloaded file in it.

it seems like once the file is downloaded, the routine that moves it into the proper destination folder isn't working properly.

by the way, the url is:  http://marketplace.publicradio.org/podcast/podcast.php

thanks,
i

That feed may have errors.  We'll double check it.

Thanks.

I hope this will apply to other feeds than just the posted url, as I've also been having problems with podcasts the last two or three weeks or so.

cheers,

still having problems - it worked for a while, but then it stopped working.  i updated to 12.0.375 and am now getting an error "Internal: Worker not found" showing up in the Episode Status field.  also, if the episode actually downloads, it says "on disk" but that yellow splotch with the red x all the way on the left is back.

can you please look into this?

thanks,

I'm also getting the "Internal: Worker Not Found" error on two podcast streams.  I don't remember seeing it before 12.0.375, and can find no  information on what the error actually means.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Check to make sure your Podcast download directory isn't missing or read only (Options --> Podcast --> Podcast Directory).  Having the wrong folder there will cause that error.

My podcast download directory is there, and the attributes seem to be set properly.  I'm not sure why that error keeps appearing.

Is it only with two specific podcasts?  If so, please post links.

Until yesterday, it was just one podcast.  This one.  http://feeds.feedburner.com/smodcast
Yesterday, I saw it on one other podcast, but I don't remember which one.  I've got quite a few of them going right now.

That Feed worked just fine for me using the newest build of MC.

Double check that you are using the current build.  You may also just want to double check that MC is able to get online.  Simply go to the Services and Plugins item in the tab and load the Amazon MP3 Store.  If you see the Amazon Store displayed on the right, you're good to go.

Lastly, I'd, as a test, I'd try resetting MC's podcast settings.

You can easily do this by renaming your Podcast.xml file to Podcast.bak (in your Library folder).  Then, open the Podcasts item in the tree and add in the problem feed.  Make doubly sure that the directory you are downloading to is available and has enough free space (remember the "Stop Downloading when less than ?GB free" setting).  If it works, then something is weird with your Podcast.xml file.  If it doesn't (and it wasn't free space or any of that) then you can restore your original Podcast.xml file from the one you renamed (delete the new one).

Post back with results.

Made sure I was using 12.0.375, and it was communicating with the Internet.  I reset the podcast.xml file and loaded that feed into the new podcast.xml, and got the same problem as I was having before.  That feed simply doesn't want to work on my system, for some reason.

EDIT: One thing I have found is that if I click on a downloading podcast, in an attempt to stop the download, I get the Worker Not Found error as well.

I've updated to 380 and am not getting the worker error message any longer, but am again back to the very same problem as my original post.  File is missing and I have that yellow splotch with a red x in the middle instead of the note icon....

help and thanks!

I am also having this problem with a couple of feeds:

http://www.kut.org/podcast/TMM_podcast.xml
http://rssnewsapps.ziffdavis.com/audioblogs/crankygeeks/cg.h.264.xml

I am running 12.0.380 on Windows Vista.

I see the podcast load into the root podcast directory and when the download is complete instead of moving it to the appropriate sub-directory, the file is deleted.

thanks,
George

I tried both of those feeds, and had the exact same problem with the TMM_Podcast.  The second worked fine, but the first downloaded and then deleted itself.

I'm running 12.0.380 on XP.

I've updated to .386, but am still experiencing the same problem.  Can you please investigate this?

Thanks,
Igz.

Hi

I've been having this exact problem with the following feed for many builds now:

http://feeds.feedburner.com/earthsky

I've just upgraded to  12.0.404 but no difference.

I get a message in the podcast view saying "Updated: not specified by podcast feed".

So, podcast downloads, then simply gets replaced by next podcast in the feed. Also, the podcast is not being created in a subdirectory of my podcast folder, but in the podcast root, despite me forcing a directory through the feed tag settings.

One more thing. I tried deleting my podcast.xml but when it was re-created it made no difference.

Hi Clintster,

The problem is that the podcast feed claims a size of 11+Mbytes, but the actual size is 1Mbyte, and this is detected as an error. I've fixed it in 409.
