Renaming files
« on: March 30, 2010, 04:12:32 pm »

You can right click on any file and use Library Tools to rename it, using tags such as [Name].
I tried to right-click on a file or a group of files -> select library tools->  select rename-> tick file name and select [name] in the rule pull-down menu.  Did I follow your instructions correctly? Unfortunately, it didn't work  :'(

Do one or two first, just to learn.

Uncheck the Directory option.  Check the Filename option.  Then how you name the file is up to you.  The names in brackets correspond to the names of the tags.

This wiki page is a little out of date, but might help:

I tried it again and it seems I’ve done it correctly the first time. The problem is that the tag also includes the elaborate information which I am trying to get rid of. For example, file name is  ‘Film Title 1997.1080p.Dts.X264.mkv’. The information in the name tag is ‘Film Title 1997.1080p.Dts.X264. Unfortunately, renaming the file by using the tag info makes no difference

you can put an underscore after the Film Title
then when you use "Library Tools/Fill Properties From Filename" enter in Filename: [Name]_
this will make MC ignore everything after the underscore.

it looks like you will have to manually change your file names at some point in time.
you could always outsource the task
