Empty Library
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:02:21 pm »

I reinstalled MC15 to fix a problem with it crashing,  However, after the reinstall, the library was empty.

I restored the library from the backup that I made prior to the reinstall.  But when I close MC and restart it, the library has disappeared and I have to restore it from the back up again.

I do get a message about the library being read only and it won't be saved, but I don't know how to fix this.

I posted this problem before but didn't get a response.

Suggestions?

Are you installing the latest MC15.136 from the top of this board.

This morning I did the following:

1. Installed MC 15.0.142.
2. Restored library.  Everything appears to he fine.
3. Close and restart MC
4. Library is gone again.

This is getting very frustrating, as this has been going on for a couple of weeks.

In MC options, where is the library supposed to be located?  Look under File Locations.

Are you using MC in a client server setup?  Anything unusual at all?

Details about your OS and discs might help.

I am running MC under Windows 7 with 2 x 1 Tb hard drives with about 100Gb free on each drive

I am not aware of anything unusual on my setup.  I've been running MC on the system on a standalone basis for about 2 years with no major problems.  Switched to Win 7 about 3-4 months ago.  Again there have been no significant issues until 2 weeks ago.  I uninstalled and reinstalled MC15 2 weeks ago to correct another problem when this started.

Options->File Locations - there is nothing that indicates where the library files are supposed to be.  There is a program files tab and the Library backups are under C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 15\Library Backups

I started having the same problem.  When I looked at the location of the library in question, it was .../read only

I've never created that, so I'm not sure how it got there.

I ended up pointing the library to a new location, restored from a backup, and it seems fine now.

Just an idea: it happened to me a few times that MC was still in the task-manager and didn't release all files when I closed it - have a look there ...
