Theater view fault, version 15.0.159
« on: December 09, 2010, 01:57:07 pm »

I've been troubled with lots of GUIs freezing for weeks, and now after un-installing and re-installing 15.0.159 theater view audio and video is seriously freezing all the time. Press a button and it takes 30s for anything to happen if I am lucky. If I use standard view it seems to be stable.

This is on a clean install, approx 7500 audio tracks + 100 videos in library. Machine is mac mini 2010 running windows 7 64 bit in bootcamp 3.2. The audio library is on a remote NAS over a gigabit fixed network (has been stable for years).

I tried updating to version 163, but that fails - it seems that version 163 is not compatible with either the hardware or 64 bit??

MC15.0.163 should install on anything that MC15.0.159 does.

It does fix a couple of problems that could account for what you see.

Also, try updating Microsoft DirectX.

In Theater View options, turn down the frame rate and drawing quality.

The machine is updated and patched to the very latest level. And it is a new machine, only 2 months old. If JR MediaCenter doesn't work on this machine, then there are other mediacenters that does. It is easier for me to start using e.g. XBMC than purchasing a new machine.

159 does install fine, 163 does not. I am sorry to say that I put more faith in my own eyes than your statements at this point in time (unless you tell me to ignore the error messages that pop up). I am sorry for being so frustrated, but with two small kids that cannot see their favourite movies and a rather upset wife this is not a sustainable situation...

I bought a new Sony VAIO about a year ago.  Theater View wouldn't work until I updated DirectX.

163 is fine with 64 bit Win7.  We use it in development.  I can't explain why 163 won't work, but 159 will, but you are running on a Mac.

Did you uninstall, reboot and reinstall?

ok, I will try that again, make sure I un-install, reboot etc and I will try updating DirectX. Sorry about airing the frustration, it has been a problem for several weeks and really started to exhaust my patience.

Thanks for the suggestions

I think we have managed to fix this, it has been stable for one day and I have been "exercising" playback of video and music for about 2 hours.

I did an extensive upgrade, updated video drivers, ethernet driver and DirectX. Then I did an un-install, rebooted, installed the 159 version and this looked fine. I then did the 163 install on top of this, did get the same error message as before saying something along the lines of "...wrong OS, please reinstall mediacenter". I didn't do anything with that, just checked the version in the help menu and it says it is version 163, so I suppose it is although the error message said the install failed.

thanks
