CPU and Memory Question.
« on: May 28, 2002, 09:20:08 am »

Is it OK to rip and encode and do other thing with the computer same time? Doesn't it effect

the encoding?

Simultaneus ripping?

Can't it create disturbance in the files?

Or burning, Can it?

And another question, if I analyze, if it lower the volume, can't it damage the file?

(I'm not realy trusting my system)

I've not had any problems with ripping or encoding and doing other things on my computer.  The encoder isn't depending on receiving data at a specific rate.  The encoding rate will suffer if other CPU intensive, higher priority stuff is running but that's it.

You can't rip from 2 drives at the same time in MJ (although I'd love to!) but I have ripped from one drive using MJ and another drive using EAC without a problem.  I've never tried to rip 2 tracks from the same CD at the same time, though.

No disturbances that I can detect nor can I come up with a reason why there might be.

Burning is another story.  You HAVE to keep the burner supplied with data to prevent buffer underruns otherwise the CD will be trashed.  Most modern drives have caches so it's usually not a problem but I never have anything else running while I'm burning, just in case.  Especially if you're burning an audio CD direct from MP3 since you have to pass through the decoder before the burn.

If you're talking about replay-gain analyzation, it doesn't actually alter the audio data stream.  It simply records a value in the tags (or library) for the player to use later to adjust the playback volume (if you have it turned on).
