MC 17 makes sah noise on pause
« on: March 26, 2012, 12:01:10 pm »

Hi
I am new around here, but have been using MC for a year now. I am running MC 17 build 106 with a 2011 Mac Mini and Windows 7 64 bits (!) into an Esoteric K-01. The problem I am having is that while listening and I press the pause button and then play again, MC 17 generates a loud sahhh noise like a pink noise. The first time I thought my speakers would blow out! This problem always happen, if not after the first pause, it does happen after two or three pause-play-pause sequence. I should say that I use Kernel Streaming, and the noise does not happen under Wasapi event style. And I would like to stay with Kernel Streaming! Also, before 106, I guess I was running build 86 and I did not have that issue, but I do not remember the exact build.

Any help is appreciated,

Enrique

Using WASAPI Event Style would be a better choice.

Thanks. But I really want to stick with kernel streaming, as it does sound better in my system and in my room. Any idea what might causing the issue?

There is an option to play silence to your device.  It might help.

Nope, it does not... Tried that, but I still get the loud and annoying noise...

Try using DSP Studio/Output Settings to upsample everything to the same samplerate.

I'm not clear.  Are you saying older builds don't exhibit the problem?

We recently made some Kernel Streaming flush changes to work around BSOD due to bad drivers, but I wouldn't expect it to cause this.

Thanks.

Hi,
yes, I did not have this noise with build 86 (or around it). I noticed it when updated to 99. DSP is a non starter for me.

Thanks for the feedback

Did you try it?  If not, would you try it?  It will tell us if the device is the problem.

I can't reproduce this, and I can't understand how the recent Kernel Streaming changes could explain it.

As Jim said, we recommend WASAPI - Event Style over Kernel Streaming when the hardware supports it.

Hi,
I got some time during the weekend and was able to setup to upsample JR as suggested. Everything to 96kHz. However, I still got the loud noise on pause. I also upgraded to 117, but same issue.

For the sake of testing, is it possible to downgrade to 86?
