Question about playing streaming MP3
« on: May 18, 2002, 08:33:18 pm »

I've associated all audio files with MJ and configured it to always take control of file types.  I configured Windows Media Player to not open any media files.  Why is it then, that Windows Media Player opens streaming MP3 files and not MJ.  For example, I've been trying to open 'WEMU-broadband.m3u' from the website, but it's Media Player that opens the file rather than MJ.  I'm able to listen to the station from within MJ, but there are times that I don't care to add a station to MJ.  Should I resolve it by uninstalling Media Player, since I never use it?

Listening to: 'It Might As Well Be Spring (w Stan Getz)' from 'Compact Jazz: Astrud Gilberto' by 'Astrud Gilberto' on Media Jukebox

Do not know which Windows you have
I have ME and used a software to remove WindowsMediaplayer 7 ang get 6 instead
And MJ8 know works just fine-was not the case before-
In another hand i think that in this case you do not get the new Windows codex that are excellent
Streaming a concert on Windows format give me hours streaming without any 're-buffering"
Streaming the same concert on Real format,i get "re-buffering'.With a very fast ADSL connection

Shelly,
Explore the IE options -- something about "play sounds", I think.

But really, it's because Windows Media Player is such an integral part of the OS that Microsoft really couldn't have done it any other way. [joke]

I'm using xp pro with all recent updates.  WMP does work nicely for listening to radio, but my preference is to use MJ. I've clicked my way through every available option, checked file associations in Windows Explorer, IE, MJ, and WMP.
Everything points to MJ as my default player but WMP hijacks MPU downloads.  You're right, Jim, it is a joke.  Integration is fine, but not when it's forced down your throat.

Listening to: 'Quiet Nights Of Quiet Stars (Corcovado)' from 'Francis Albert Sinatra & Antonio Carlos Jobim' by 'Frank Sinatra/Antonio Carlos Jobim' on Media Jukebox
