video mode and zones
« on: February 24, 2012, 11:09:31 am »

Can you please allow setting video mode(RO or ROHQ) per zone.
For my set up it is the only way to have glitch free playback for tv-shows (RO + 59.940 refresh rate) and movies (ROHQ+ custom 23hz nvidia timing)

You should be able to get MC to select your Custom 23Hz frame rate using the Display Settings under Video in Options for the relevant video types.  Check the Enable Automatic Display Settings changing and also set the Default rate to your 59.94 rate.  As far as I know, TV will use your Default rate.

I'm not using MC for TV yet.  So what is wrong with madvr for TV?

i am still experimanting things as i have just changed my video card (gt430) and my tv-set(sony 55ex720).
My previous tv set couldn't handle 1080p24 so I still have a few things to try.
the thing is that tv-shows are detected as films (23.976) so when i use automatic display it uses my film setting (ROHQ + custom 23.976) with this setting audio gets out of sync from time to time and if I try to use 59.940 it's very glitchy with ROHQ, the only setting I have found to give me perfect playback so far is RO+59.940
For movies, the only setting that is perfect is ROHQ + custom 23.976.
So If I want to use these settings I need to use two zones with different monitor settings and different video modes

I notice that Hardware Acceleration is Zone independent too.

Are you using VideoClock with TV?  If it is like ReClock, you can't use it with live TV.  VideoClock is Zone dependent.  Try turning it off for TV.

I do use videoclock, but i dont watch live tv, just recorded tv-shows.
In the video settings, I can't find the logic where some settings are zone dependent (videoclock, automatic display) and some are not.
Everything should be zone dependent even if it means taking more time to set it all up ...

could any of the devs have a look at this, making video mode zone dependent would really simplify things for me ...

Sandy B Ridge suggested some madVR settings which I have now used which, used with VideoClock, have greatly improved the smoothness of my TV video.  They are in this post:

I think SBR uses the same graphics card as you.

And VideoClock does work with live TV.

I'll try these settings tonight and see if it helps.
But i am not really sure it will, smoothness has never been a problem, audio syncing on the other hand is a different story (two sides of the same problem ?)

You can also set up Custom video modes. Tools>Options>Video: VideoMode>Advanced>Custom then you select what formats (file types) are played with RO+HQ (MadVR) and RO (EVR).
example, I use RO+HQ for m2ts and mkv files, and RO only for ts, and jtv files. I find my TV recordings (ts and jtv) play back smoother using the EVR renderer.

for those who are interested, I managed to get perfect playback for movies and tv-shows (smooth and in sync) :
I changed the audio output from ASIO to WASAPI event style and now everything works fine.
