As its not on the list of fixes is it safe to assume that the problem of starting the Player in Win98 SE has not been addressed?

Win 98 should have been tested before release.  It was late, so I'm not certain.

Running on WinXP Home now.

6. Fixed: Player window sliders would not show states.
Using Z skin, the position slider does not change state...the volume slider does.

Ripping - Options window that comes up has two minimize buttons.

Also - Looks like the skin isn't fully drawn. Small lines below internal windows show something underneath.

Hang on, it only happens when I bring up another dropdown. Settings > Options for instance. If I switch back to IE, and then back to MJ again it is properly drawn. Just doesn't refresh on its own.

MachineHead -
Thanks I can now confirm Win98 SE Player problem is fixed in 256.

Not Fixed:
Slow goto initial letter search response in TreeList.
Setting/General/Disable Media Scheduler still being ignored.

Any chance that the Notes Editor will get word wrapping?

Otherwise looking good.

DFX still isn't fixed. Any idea when it will be? Also may just be me, but it looks like the vis studio has completely disappeared. I have no vis. at all, and can't even see the title of the songs that are playing.

As starflyer hints, non JRiver dsp's are not showing up in DSP Studio.

With MegaMe skins disabled, a sort of the playing list leaves the speaker icon on the track that is playing, but the text coloring is on whatever track is on the line where the playing trach used to be before the sort.

>Winamp DSP's

They've been disabled for a few builds, because there's a chance they were causing the "MJ won't start" complaints.  They'll return shortly.

>Slow goto initial letter search response in TreeList

The tree has typed navigation.  It's actually a feature, so "me" goes to "Metallica" instead of "Enya".  Wait a second or two and it resets.

Take care.

Mike, got the vis studio problem fixed by uninstalling and then reinstalling, so I is a semi happy camper once more. Still not happy about DFX though. and now I have to search through interact to get the links for ZRockers skins again. And also Cals vis. Oh well, C'est la vie.
Thanks again Mike

It appears that MJ will not display an 'ampersand space' (& ); all my filenames and tags have them replaced by an underscore (_).  Example: All my "Brooks & Dunn" come out "Brooks _Dunn".

As LCtheDJ reported, an & is replaced by an underscore in Windows ME also.

When clicking on Burn, both audio and data are selected and can't unselect either one.

Can now back up my library. Thanks much for that.

The 'ampersand space' replacement is not happening with the skin disabled; only happens with a MegaSkin on.

If the slider in the visualization is up (disabled) and I'm playing something, MJ crashes when bringing it down. If I bring it down first, then play...then it's fine.

Tried that type navigation thing as noted above but it doesn't seem to work with numbers. If there is a view scheme with a number like "24hrs" and you hit "2", it jumps to that scheme and stays there. Same with Rating (1-5). If there are no view scheme/nodes with a number you type, it works just fine. This doesn't happen with letters so I assume it's a bug.

Media Library shows partial buttons for the search when Advanced is Off. Very noticeable on a 640X480 display.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module VIS STUDIO.DLL at 0167:027791c3.

Testing out Dragyns' problem gives this warning. This didn't happen earlier, I checked.

Dragyn - Did you install Callithumpians vis?

Must be something else. Deleted Callithumpians vis and still got this error. This one happened while MJ was playing and clicking on Vis Studio.

MEDIA JUKEBOX caused an invalid page fault in
module PLAYBACKENG.DLL at 0167:01aee952.

RESTART UPDATE - Maybe it was the vis. Now I can drag the bar up and down for all its worth and no problem. ?? Anyone else ??

I'm recording some old cassette tapes and have not expeienced your problem with the auto volume setting.  I'm also using a Santa Cruz and XP prof on a Dell 8100.  I'm recording from the sound card mixer, not line-in, and the auto volume works fine.

Z skin is nice.

Problems-

-Sliders around left and right panes still not skinned.

-Menus, context and drop down, not skinned.

-Burner control partially hidden

-In the right pane, there should be a pixel or two clearance between columns

-Since I had selected a MegaMe skin other than default, and installed the update via. Help/Check for Updates, the MegaMe skin should not have been changed to Z, but it was.

Metamorphis Bug:
1. Something is not right with mini-me skins and changing EQ bands.  The EQ band change events are not firing (OnSliderPositionChanged for EQ bands...Balance does work).  LowerRight and LowerLeft used to work fine, but one of the latest MJ releases must have stopped working (I didn't change anything...).

The Z skin is a nice default.

When a new CD is inserted and the device is selected in the tree, a standard windows message box appears with "Gathering information..."  (or something close) followed shortly by a skinned message box with a CDDB message BEHIND the first box.  During this time, the MJ frame and title bar sometimes revert to non-skinned.  WHen both boxes disappear, the skinned MJ frame and title bar take back over.

When narrowing a column the text in the column is abruptly truncated with a 0 pixel margin making the text appear to run into the next column.  In non-skinned mode in this version and earlier skinned versions, truncated columns had the "..." appended to the text.

There seems to be a problem burning a CD directly after ripping one from the same device.  Even after removing the ripped CD and replacing it with a blank CD, the device still shows the ripped CD title and tracks.  Even restarting MJ doesn't clear the device.  I have to leave the tray empty, then select the device to clear the ripped CD, THEN put a blank CD in the device.  The device is a TDK VeloCD 24/10/40B.

MEDIA Scheduler:
- When adding a task "Start Recording", MJ will start and open the dialog box with the message "waiting for sound", MJ does not start playing automatic,
not even when all options are checked to auto play on startup
*************

*************
When MJ is in Playing Now and the option "Auto-Hide Bars" is turned off and my visualisations/play list is half screen :
- I have a visualisation with text at the bottom, when switching from "playing now" to "media library" and back, the
visualisation gets resized properly so my text is above my toolbar.
- Minimize MJ to the System Tray, Double click on the system Tray icon to maximize again, then visualisations are not resized, my text is underneath the toolbar.

The bug with MonkeysAudio files playback is still there: .ape-files encoded with the newest version play okay on some positions, on others they just hang, repeating a part of abaout half a second over and over. The time position shown moves on, though. Winamp plays those file perfectly, so it's probably not the files.

8. Fixed: If MJ was started from mini-me mode switching back to Mega-me would not work correctly.

I usually start with minimized tray icon. But now this version will not switch to Mega-me correctly for me. (Was OK up to 254)
All is OK if I start directly to Mega-me/ then minimize to icon or mini-me

Strange happenings after installing 8.0.256 Beta from 8.0.254. I always install  over the top of the last beta, usually this is OK. This time however, when install had finished, MJ said it had to restart my computer, this it did, then MJ was restarted, all I had was title bars and the bottom frame and nothing in between. No media library tree etc, all was just blank. Mini-me was fine. I then uninstalled MJ and re installed and all was back to normal, all except the grid lines which are missing in the Z skin. Anyone else had this??

We can't reproduce this here, using XP and a Santa Cruz sound card. Do you have the same problem if you open the sound recorder tool and press "Start" to begin recording? How about using the built-in windows recorder, does that work? In recorder options in MJ, are there multiple choices for the recording device, of just the Santa Cruz?

Repaint problems when resizing columns in any view--they leave black vertical lines behind often. Clicking on column headers causes a fresh repaint and straightens it out, but I've managed to get some pretty messed-up looking displays without forcing a repaint. Also the contents of the columns themselves aren't repainting, so my end product looks like the wrong column is under the wrong header before I force the repaint.

severian,
I don't see this with the Z skin.  Which skin are you using?  Does it occur with others?

Bugs reported by me for the previous build, thought not listed in the fixes for this build, appear to have been fixed anyway:

"Recurrence of an old bug which had gone away early in the betas of version 8, but has resurfaced in the last few builds (I apologize I didn't catch exactly which one). If I set up a fairly long playlist, start it a-playin, minimize MJ (to system tray or task bar), and then return to MJ some songs later, the tracks displayed in playing now no longer include the song which is actually playing now, but rather has jumped ahead several tracks of the song currently playing (3 to be exact; e.g., I start playing song #109 with this song smack in the middle of the playing now display, minimize MJ, restore when song #110 has started, and song #113 and below are shown in the playing now window).

Also, likely unrelated; if two entries of the same song are in the playing now list (for instance, at slot #1 and #736), I may start playing at entry #1, but the next song to play will be #737."

Good job guys.

- Are about 2 build that I can see the '&' symbol only if I select the text conteining it, or asking for files properties.
I'm using Green Eyes & Tekno Mega with the same issue.

How is possible to play Jmx files, I was never been able to listen them, and install Jmx plug-in don't seems possible; where am I in wrong?  Mjb is not able to localize them...
Thanks

Some people reporting that they cannot see their grid lines. They can be seen on my system but they are very light in color. You can select files you want to look at and then goto properties and the grid lines brighten right up.

**Very Annoying**

When working in the right panel, and click on a column to sort by something other than the default, and do anthing, the column reverts back to the default sort.  It should not revert unless the entry is left and re-entered.

Having the same problem as severian, happens in all MEGA-SKINS.
If you drag to the right it leaves vertical black lines, if you drag to the left it repaints okay most of the time.  Also, if you have Track Info Tooltips on and drag over the screen it acts like an eraser takeing away the vertical lines.

This has been going on with my system for the last 6 or 8 builds. Thought maybe it was my video card.  Matrox Mytique 220.
