Stereo-link Cabling
« on: April 02, 2002, 11:01:59 am »

I can't find the previous post about USB and audio cable lengths with a Stereo-link.  Here's the reply I got from Stereo-link:

Thank you for your interest in the stereo-link Model 1200.  Regarding the $36.00 USB cable, the cable is not an ordinary USB cable it is an Active Extension USB cable.  Essentially, this is a 5 meter USB cable with a 1 port hub attached to the end of it.  This allows you to attach another USB cable to this for a total (max) distance of 10 meters - 7m if you use the 3 meter cable included with the 1200.

The output from the 1200 is line-level (same as your CD player, DVD player etc.) and is designed to drive long lengths of cable.  Proper cabling and routing is also critical to noise free listening.  The tests we conducted were in "real world" mode and interference was not a problem using the supplied cable.  We always encourage customers to span their longest lengths using audio cable in lieu of USB cable to take advantage of the 1200's audio circuitry.

Scronch,
I'm confused. Is this a response to another thread or do you have a question?

No question; it's a response.  There was another thread in which the cabling distance for a stereo-link was discussed, but I couldn't find it using search.

The USB cable that came with mine is about 6 feet long. I don't know how long the RCA cables are, as I don't use theirs (I use a custom made cable so I can use my Klipsch ProMedia speakers with the Stereo-Link).
