Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure if Media Center is the source of my problems, but I tried it last night and gave up after it crashed repeatedly. Afterwards, I noticed a problem with the audio on my Mac Mini and I'm going crazy trying to fix it. So I'm looking at all possible causes. I have used AppZapper to remove Media Center and rebuilt my disc permissions, but the problem below persists.
I have an HRT Music Streamer II DAC connected to my Mac Mini running OSX 10.6.8. Last night, after unsuccessfully trying Media Center, I noticed that iTunes stopped outputting any audio when the Audio Midi Output format was set to 96kHz. If I set the output to anything lower than 96kHz it played fine. It also worked fine if I switched the output to the built-in headphones at 96kHz. I'm playing 24-96 Apple Lossless files.
Today I'm getting some audio output when the Audio Midi format is set to 96kHz, but the sound is extremely distorted and staticky. Switching to 88.2kHz or lower seems to fix the problem. The same thing happens if I play a video in Safari through the DAC.
I thought it might be the DAC, but I connected it to my Macbook (it has never had Media Center installed on it) and it played fine at 24-96. I reconnected the DAC to the Mac Mini with the same usb cable, and it is still distorted at 96kHz. I'm very confused. ?
Does anyone have any idea why this would be happening or how to fix it?
Any advice would be much appreciated. Like I said, I'm not blaming Media Center, but the timing would suggest that it may have something to do with the problem and I'm just trying to eliminate all possible causes.
Thanks.
