Setup:

Streaming FLAC files from PC Server to Laptop Client then USB out to Emotiva XDA-2 via WASAPI drivers.

I am losing the first 10 seconds of the songs. I can see the song 'playing' in JRiver but it isn't outputting except the odd pop noise. After 10 seconds the sound is fine.

I don't get any loss if I play the files directly from the client computer.

Haven't had a chance to stream a smaller format MP3 yet.

Anyone had this issue before?

Have you tried playing the same file directly from the laptop?

What version of MC are you using?  19.0.104 is at the top of the MC19 board.

Using the latest version and it plays fine on both the PC and the laptop.

Running a Wireless N router and seeing very good speeds there.

Server on Windows 7 and Client on Windows 8.

Sorry I didn't respond back right away in the other thread.  I've had my XDA-2 hooked up to a low power PC (Atom D2700) which was causing some problems in its own right.  I wanted to hook it up to the desktop to test before answering.

In Tools -> Options -> Audio check the following settings:

Audio Device -> Device Settings -> Buffering  Try increasing or decreasing the buffering (I had mine at 500 milliseconds)
Settings -> Prebuffering  Again, try increasing (mine was at 10 seconds)
Settings -> Play silence at startup for hardware synch Try 1 second

So I tried your settings and then variations and still no major difference - maybe 7 seconds now instead of 10.

I notice that on the the display showing the seconds the song is playing it skips up in 3 second increments (not always three but mostly) and then levels out and the music starts playing.  ?

Is it between every track or just when you initially start playback?

Every track, sadly or I could live with it.  

I also get two audible 'clicks' before it starts the track.

I think I may have reduced it considerably though I lost track of the changes I made which isn't going to help anyone else! Sorry!

I noticed that the 'Spectrum Analyzer' is not working during the playing of the song, it isn't important but may be related to the reason behind the drop out at the start of the song.

I'll try to calculate how much I am losing now and will post the settings.

Well I am not sure if putting an extended next to my laptop or the new release of JRiver downloaded this afternoon or both has resolved the issue but it appears to be resolved.

The original signal from the router was strong and pretty solid so who knows!

Oops! Just heard dropout on a track, just for a second but it was there. I'll check the buffering settings now that the original issue has been resolved.

Tried changing the pre-buffer up and down but still getting random dropouts and when I changed album I got the same issue I had before  ?

Once I put the slider back to the start of the song it played ok.

More work to do I feel!

Update: I seem to be getting a dropout on album change at 5 seconds and 7 seconds then it plays until some random dropout appears.

Currently the pre-buffer is set at 6 seconds, oddly that which appears between 5 and 7 

Trying 2 seconds again and will see if there is a similar connection there!

Still gettin hiccups early in the tracks (though not the original issue thankfully).

Tried all pre-buffer settings and the hiccup appears at around the same spot (sometimes once sometimes twice in close succession) and then occasionally it doesn't happen!

Is there anything at the server end that affects the stream or is all client side?

Do you stream from the server side?
Since this week I have also a media server, but I let the client pull the data from the server,
so the client does the decoding. I can play FLAC stereo and surround like this. Even very big flacs inside an ISO SACDR file.
You can check in your windows network settings what your actual speed is (network and sharing center) or your wireless settings.

I do decode in the client side and I am seeing 72mb to 130mb speeds across the wireless network with no packages lost on latency tests.

I'm away this weekend so will have to investigate when I return.
