Anyone else find "Update Library (from tags)" reports the library is updated when it is not? E.g. on these two (unchanged) files:

Its not incorrectly reporting. It will report the number of files it processed, no matter if it found any changes or not, and the number of files it failed to process.
If it would say "0 files", the next person would ask why his files are not being processed.

Its a matter of perspective I suppose. It'll always ensure the library is up-to-date with the information retrieved from the file, no matter if any changes actually need to be performed.

Sure, and it updates them. That nothing changed during this update process is not really important to it.

Like I said, its a matter of perspective. If it said 2 files processed, 0 files update, 0 files failed, you wouldn't really know anymore. Ok, I guess in this limited case you might. But if it says 1000 files processed, 754 files updated, or 1000 files processed, 534 files updated, you don't know anything more really. You want a list of files which had changes, too? :p

The point is, its not meant to tell you how many files changed, but how many it ran its update process on.

That nothing changed during this update process is not really important to it.

Hendrik, may I politely suggest you consult a dictionary for the accepted meaning(s) of the word "update". e.g. http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/update

If no change has been made, no update has been made.

So to make your dictionary happy I just change it to say "Processed 2 files", and in the end, nothing changes, and we did some change for the sake of making a change?
It doesn't track how many files were actually changed in this process, and the whole process isn't designed to track this in the first place, so giving you real "updated" numbers is rather unlikely right now.

I'm just not convinced some wording change was worth this discussion.

You're mistaken. What that changes is the entire meaning of the report - to one that hopefully is accurate.
