Media Center 20.0.17 Possible Bug
« on: September 22, 2014, 11:43:44 pm »

Since upgrading to Media center 20 and now 20.0.17, if I leave the program opened then use a different program, say, Firefox or Outlook, when I close the other program that I use and go back to Media Center 20.0.17 the program freezes (meaning Media Center 20.0.17 freezes). At the top it keep stating "Waiting". I've waited a few times for quite a while and nothing happens when I try to play a song or do anything in the program, it just completely freezes. I have to manually kill the program through windows task manager and restart it. When I restart it with no other programs up it runs perfectly, but if I try to run something else like Firefox, Outlook, etc. then go back to Media Center 20.0.17 the program will completely freeze again.

Now it could be my machine causing this, I have no way to determine if it is a bug in the program or has something to do with my machine thus the title "possible bug".

I am running Windows 8.1 with an Intel Core i7 CPU, 12GB Corsair Dominator RAM, nVIDIA GeFORCE GTX680 GPU, Intel SSD Drive etc. so my machine isn't so much of a slouch. But like I said I have no way to determine if it is a bug in Media Center or if it has something to do with my machine.

Any comments and / or suggestions / solutions would be very much appreciated. Thank you all! Love my Media Center!

Are you playing files from a local drive or a NAS?

Antivirus?

Any devices plugged in?

Thank you for your reply. I am playing from a local SSD Drive. I use Norton 360 as my Internet Security Software and as far as devices plugged in I just use an optical cable from my computer to my Bifrost Uber DAC then RCA cables to my Valhalla 2 Tube Amplifier.

Take a look a Windows "Event Viewer" and see if there are any error/failure clues in there.

I use Norton 360 as my Internet Security Software ...
We've seen many strange problems like this that turned out to be caused by antivirus.  I'm not saying that this is, but there is only one way to rule it out.  Try disabling it.  If that doesn't work, uninstall it.  It's the only way to know.

Did you install a driver for the DAC?

Try playing to a different device.

There is no need for a driver for the DAC, I am using an optical cable not USB. I have tried playing straight through a creative titanium HD soundcard, same issue.
