I'm so relieved you reverted back to the nice stable version of MC.  This is what I was about to post in the 315 bug thread:

Thanks for fixing the hairstyle bugs.

I'm now having the following problem that I first noticed in 311.  I'm not sure if it's related to the Always On Top issue I've seen reported.  When MC is maximised and I click the middle of the 3 buttons in the top right of the window (restore down is the correct term I think) MC is no longer in view.  I expected it to be smaller and resizable but it's nowhere to be seen except for it's entry on the taskbar.  The only way to bring it back is to right click on Media Centre on the task bar and 'maximise'.

These are issues outstanding from previous bug threads:

  • Problem with how MC sets focus.  To recreate do the following:

*Display Playing Now and double click a track to start playback
*Use F11 to toggle into Track Info, Hairstyle and finally back to Mega-me
*You no longer have focus on the PN List (Try up and down arrow).  In fact you don't appear to have focus on anything.

If you repeat the above test but have any other view besides playing now in focus before you toggle with F11, you always get focus just the way you left it when you return to Mega-me.

This behaviour is causing problems when navigating with a remote.  I could find a workaround but a fix within MC would be the best solution.

  • If you tab from the tree to the search bar you get a system beep for no apparent reason.  Very annoying when navigating with a remote.

Sad to see the .315 changes go, I really liked them.  Think I might hold on to .315 for awhile until a later build compels me to upgrade.

Cosmetics...
  • The "flying papers" animation in the "CD Burning Progress" dialog and the "search PC with magnifier" animation in the "CD Burning Progress" dialog don't support transparency - looks ugly... Win2K only?
  • After changing skins, the transparency of icons in tree, AW and lists is lost sometimes. In AW, transparency comes back after selecting another view in the AW. Transparency of tree and list icons comes back only after restarting MC... Win2K only?

Thank you for internal volume option.
Can you add this option for audio & movie file ?
Sometimes the volume changes is slow. It wil be nice for each zone to have a separate internal volume.

Isn't the problem JLee reports with restoring the window the same one as we (certainly I, and I'm sure I saw someone else mention it) had before?

Before I had to use the keyboard shortcuts for resizing the window (alt-space to bring up the menu then S for size and then cursor keys to move the borders, then enter to accept). Might work in this case...

Bugs:
1. Alternate Play (click while ALT key is pressed) does not work anymore (can't engage the alternate playback options).

2. DM Ctrl-V (Paste URL support) added URL to download list twice.

3. DM Ctrl-V while in Add URL dialog does not work (again...bug #2 above happens...ideally the URL would be pasted in the Add URL editbox for such).

Bug:
1. Seeing instances of MC not seeing the Comment field of ID3v1 tags when managing tag data (using MC) prior to importing into MC.  Used MC to add the Comment data on lots of MP3s and it is there (in the MP3's v1 tag).  But, later when I get around to importing the tracks, MC has it cached somewhere (it appears) with no Comment data and MC will not display the Comment data...I can view it in Dr.Tag (for example).  Using Update Library (from tags...always) does not bring the Comment data into MC.  When I started the tag maintenance, all the MP3 had no current tag data (v1 or v2)...and, I don't use v2 tags (not enabled in MC).

Just to reiterate a bug that has been there for quite a few releases now, album art still does not display in the "Track Info" page of the "Playing Now" screen when using the Media Server to access another system.  The album art DOES show up in the AW and the 3D visualization screens -- it's just the "Playing Now/Track Info" screen that has the problem.  A little red "X" in a white square (i.e. a broken link symbol) appears where the album art should be.

The album art is obviously "getting through" to the other system via the Media Server -- it's just not appearing in this one type of window in MC.

Is there any hope of this being addressed in MC 9.1 now that version 10 is on the front burner, or will version 10 basically take over all the programming resources?  This issue is admittedly not "that" big of a deal, but it IS there, and it's frustrating when new features completely overshadow bug fixes.

Thanks,

Larry

[date] field is not being saved to file (audio) after having "save inside files (when possible)" ticked in tree and view settings.

Note: [date (year)] saves just fine, it's the day/month part that isn't being saved.

Search bar text isn't updated when switching skins. Can't see the text. Have to restart. Defeats the purpose of new skinning engine.

Tooltips are not shown with truncated panes. Unable to see what I'm clicking. Have to hide tree to expand panes...which is a pain.
Whatever happened to the auto sizing of the panes? I remember Matt saying they would return for v9.1???

Double-Clicking Pane divider shows the menu for panes.

See what I'm saying about how things are not consistent? There's a bunch of other areas too.

MC9!!!! Come on already. Now you're trying to sell a new version?
Fix Ver 9 FIRST!! I love Media Center, but I'm VERY annoyed with
having to close MC between every CD I want to rip. This is BASIC stuff
here. I hate to say it, but I have to use WMP9 for ripping.

I'd love to check out MC V10, but until you fix V9, ain't no way.

I rip mulitple CD's in a row all the time with MC and don't have this problem, so you might want to look into other possiblities like configuration issues.

  • Search bar does not support transparency of PNG
  • If MC is trying to load an old skin (MJMS version="1.0"), it does not directly revert to default skin. It loads some elements of the old skin, shows black rectangles for the rest and then locks up. In some cases it then reverts to default skin after about a minute, in some cases it has to be terminated with the task manager.

That's really strange.  Are the drives all the same make and model?  How are they connected to the motherboard -- i.e. onboard IDE channel, PCI slot controller, etc.?  Do you have any type of "Drive Speed" programs running -- i.e. programs that control the spin up/down of the drive?  Do you have any other apps running that effect the CD drives in ANY way -- perhaps something that you haven't considered yet?

The system I'm using for ripping has worked with both Win2K and XP with various iterations of MC 9 and 9.1.  I did have an issue at some point where the rip speed would suddenely be reduced after several rips -- restarting MC would sove this issue.  I don't think this still happens, however.  I'm not sure if switching to a new version of MC or to XP solved this issue.

I've just upgraded my speakers to the Creative Inspire P580, with 5.1 channel audio.  I can't seem to get Media Centre to use the rear speakers properly.

I've tried all the settings in the dsp studio, I've tried deactivating the dsp studio. Nothing seems to work.

My sound card is a Creative Sound Blaster Live, using front and rear output.

Sometimes it doesn't seem to work at all, sometimes I can hear a minute amount of sound.

When using WMP9 I get full surround sound from all the channels.

Greatful for any help,

Rich

I still get some random hangs during tagging.  The "Saving Track Info" message just sticks on the screen when this happnes, and after closing MC I'm sometimes unable to start it again until I reboot the computer (i.e. nothing happens when double clicking the MC icon.)

I'm having the same problem as Benz, a few posts up the list. Burning CD's is putting the wrong index seperater marks between tracks. Also the cross fade no longer works on burning.

There's not much activity on this build anymore, has everyone moved on to ver. 10?
I have trouble keeping up with which version is stable and I should be using. I worry about jriver sometimes, they've now got versions 8 9 and 10 on the go. It's nice the program evolves, but I'd like a stable working definitive version of one of them that does what it says on the packet.

I tend to agree.  I have to admit I was troubled when they started up with 10 beta.  I only got 9 four or five months ago, and while it's generally stable, it's not "rock" solid yet.  I was afraid that as soon as 10 was "active," it would basically end the chances of 9 ever getting to the rock solid point.

I guess I'm just not into the idea of constantly updating/upgrading all the time.  I understand that this is a hobby for some people, but I'd like to be able to relax with a "final" version for a while.

GPF Plug-In Error related to Update still exists:

Updated from .286 (worked) to .308 -> .309 -> .311  -> .313  -> .316

Appears that registry values are not being fully removed/updated duing update process that results in GPF.  Problem resolved by performing full (both options checked) UNINSTALL.  Original details below:

Dialog on eject drive tray and rip: Information-->Cannot create plug-in". -->OK  (Occurs after access to Internet on rip).

Processing continues as long as OK isn't pressed on the dialog.  Once the OK button is pressed MC either halts w/o message or several GPF messages are displayed in session.

Event occurs everytime the tray open/closed on the drive.

Any reason the systray and taskbar icons have been switched in 9.1.316???  I really liked the ones I had back in 9.1.308...the ones more like the small icon in the upper-left of the MC screen.

Or did my graphics files just get corrupted?

Try a search here (extend the date range) and then start a new thread if you can't find anything.  I think you have to set something in the Creative software.

I also have this problem, but it is intermittent - sometimes I can rip several CDs before the next is not recognised.  What actually happens is the CD drive does not even start up when the tray is closed.  As I have a second drive (CDRW) I can use that instead, after which the first drive operates normally again.

The offending drive is an LG DVD-ROM DRD8160B.

Athlon XP2400+, Win2k SP4, 768Mb DDR.

MC crashes about every tenth time or so when I db-click a moviefile (avi, mpeg). When I open MC again it plays the file without problems.

Therefore it doesnt seem like a problem with a corrupt file, as every file plays as it should, when I open MC and tries again.

I realize I've been remiss by not upgrading for a while.
Maybe that bad karma came back to bite me.

Now, whenever I play a track (or the next track in a playlist comes on), I get an error like the following:
"type=4, m_Duration=1347210000"

I have to click OK on the dialog box to make it go away so I can hear the song.

I searched this forum for "m_duration" but surprisingly found no mention of this issue.

Any idea what's going on with this?

In skin manager, when hitting "download more skins" one is directed to the Media Jukebox skinpage
