« on: January 22, 2004, 05:03:20 pm »

Media Center 10.0.43 beta is available.

This is a beta.  Avoid this if problems, changes, or crashes will upset you.  Do NOT try this if you aren't prepared for trouble.

Please keep a list of issues you find and report them with each build until we have addressed them.

The latest known stable version of 9.1 is here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Please check the license and price thread before you download:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=17336

The latest beta of 10 is here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter10043.exe
PLEASE NOTE -- This build may not work correctly with handheld players that are not set to use WMDM -- the iPod, for example.  Please wait a few builds for this.

10.0.43 (1/22/04)

1. Changed: Added 'Close Display' menu command when display is not internal.
2. Changed: Action Window tools button on left instead of right.
3. Fixed: Duplicate type searches would remove track sequence #, causing problems in Playing Now and playlists.
4. Fixed: MC behaves more logically when a user search shows files in the Playing Now view that aren't currently in 'Playing Now'.
5. Changed: Tuned tree auto-expand logic to collapse items that were auto-expanded when selecting a new item.
6. Changed: Removed 'Columns to Show' menu -- was causing confusion. (use 'Customize Current View...')
7. Changed: Media Center no longer always shows tray icon. (introduced 10.0.42)
8. NEW: WMDM Devices will auto detect on connection and removal.
9. Fixed: In web views, some keystrokes weren't properly translated. (backspace would erase two letters, etc.)

10.0.42 (1/21/04)

1. Fixed: Creating a smartlist from the Action Window would show a "Drag files here" window that didn't do anything.
2. NEW: Smartlist searches are shown in a separate, full length search bar.
3. Changed: Search bar width about 50% wider.
4. Changed: Added 'Close' button to fullscreen and windowed top control bar.
5. Changed: Display control bars have button tooltips.
6. Changed: Display control bars don't dissappear as fast in full screen mode when the mouse is over one of the bars.
7. Changed: Removed confirmation from the end of the Photo Printing Wizard.
8. NEW: Print Wizard remembers printer and user settings between sessions.
9. Fixed: Skin Effects dialog could cause crashes on some systems.
10. Fixed: Player buttons could get fired on mouse up when finishing dragging the volume or position slider.
11. Fixed: View scheme groupings work more logically with the sorting option "Ignore articles" turned on.
12. Fixed: Media Modes would not work properly if too much tree customization was done. (now creates scheme groups when necessary)
13. Fixed: Media Center would be 'Always on Top' on some machines. (maybe fixed -- please let us know)
14. Changed: Media Center always shows tray icon. ('Minimize to System Tray' option changes how MC minimizes)
15. Changed: Tray icon toggles Media Center's visibility. (instead of show only)
16. Fixed: When MC updated it could lose the scroll position, selection, etc. when it shouldn't have. (affects several areas)
17. NEW: MC shows a "Loading page..." message when loading a webpage view.
18. Changed: The way the tree is constucted for Portable Devices. Currently this only works for WMDM devices.

10.0.41 (1/20/04)

1. NEW: MC includes two new Hairstyle skins.
2. NEW: Action Windows blink for a while when started from outside the Action Window.
3. Fixed: MC could report "Failed to create handheld plug-in" on fresh installs. (hopefully fixed -- please let us know)
4. Changed: Several usability enhancements to Action Window Handheld system.
6. Fixed: Send To wasn't working properly with handhelds.
7. Changed: Action Window headers only show buttons when appropriate. (back, close, tools)
8. Changed: After a CD burn is complete, dialog checkmark option is "Clear burn queue" instead of "Save burn queue".
9. Fixed: CD burn queue entries could be deleted while burn was taking place.
10. Fixed: CD ripping and burning progress action windows would not display properly for the first few seconds.
11. NEW: Retooled "Build Playlist" system in Action Window and unified all playlist creation through it.

Bug:
1. The Auto Expand Tree option does not work if you click on a Favorites location.  You are placed on the folder the favorites points to, but no Auto Expand.  If you navigate to the folder manually (My Computer location), Auto Expand does work.

Thanks for giving me back the rip speeds...A+

In the AW for ripping, If you put a cd in, then click the rip button, it says : Please insert cd, Until you click show list...

When you click on rip, shouldn't it already goto the list??

I am receiving a Media Core error everytime I close Media Center 10.0.43. I have not had this problem with any other build. I did load the MCXMLEeport Plug-In last night. It appears that the MCXMLExport Plug-In may be causing the error. It references a file called "appcompat.txt". The file seems to contain MC specific references.

Let me know if I should attach the file.

Try un-installing the plugin and seeing if the build keeps giving you errors. If the errors stop, then post your problems in the MC XML Export thread under the Third Party Plugins forum.

It still does, which is a good thing in my books :)
I'd like to see these view options for the tray:
1) Show in TaskBar only
2) Show in System Tray only
3) Minimize to System Tray

CD Ripping coming along well. A couple of points:-

1. Not being kicked into "Recently Ripped" after a CD rip - in fact "Recently Ripped" playlist appears/doesn't appear seemingly at random. Last rip for me it didn't appear at all.
2. Strange way that the list of tracks to be ripped is shown if you select tracks in the main view, the r/click and select "Rip CD". Some are at the top of the screen in alpha order, others are at the foot of the list not in alpha order. Can't find any pattern in this.

I don't know if this has been up before, but there is a sorting bug: Play/add any multiple artist album with either NetRemote or Internet Explorer logged on to remoteserver.dll, and the tracks will be played in artist order sorted alphabetical instead of by track number order. Is this something that can be easily fixed and will be done soon?

I don't understand the purpose of the "blinking" AW.  It's a bit distracting, and I don't see how it actually helps with anything.  If you need to use the AW for something, you use it.  What's the purpose of a "reminder" that it somehow applies to what you're doing?  It can pretty much ALWAYS apply to what you're doing in some manner.

Thanks,

Larry

1. I think that TV and WEB Media should be moved back to the root of the tree, whereas the GO-Start is pretty much useless and should be removed from the registered versions. (JRiver weblink could be moved to the Help menu or about menu.)

2. There should be a quick way to switch between Mega-Me, mini-me, Full screen and hairstyle using a button, without going into the menu.

I don't.  But that's beside the point - I think we'd all like to see a way to actually customize that tree to our liking, eh?

Is there some sort of "programming" issue that prevents the "send to" funtion from including smartlists as well as playlists?  This strikes me as an odd ommission in the program.  It would really accelerate workflow (for me) if you could right click on an album and "send to" a smartlist, which I vastly prefer to using playlists.  Once the library becomes big enough, the smartlist creation process gets really sluggish as you wait for the "list" of albums/artists/etc. to come up.  A right click method of creating smartlists would eliminate this issue.

The "Show All Fields" state of the "tag info" is getting reset every time the program starts, and every time I use the little "i" button on the toolbar.  I'm always having to go in and re-check "Columns to Show/Show All Fields," which slows down workflow when trying to rip and tag.

Every Time I plug-In My USB Flash Drive MC Comes Up And Tells Me

[Media Center]

Please verify player is connected

[Ok]

and can not get rid of the window unless i click ok about 30 times.

then MC moves to Hand held player [Drop Files here]

since i do not have a mp3 player hooked to the computer i might should not get this mesage.

when installed the USB Dive is listed as "UDISK20"

Also:

I think maybe a "swirling black hole" or some type of "Space Vortex" might be better than just text.

Hairstyle Skin bug:

If you show all items on the main menu then fine but if, like me, you use the configure hairstyle function to show only Audio, Video and Playlists then the .png images that are displayed when you select an item are not correct.  For example, if I select video I see the .png for playlists.

This is the same with all skins.

BTW - Love the new Glass Skin - Very smart.

Don't know if this is related to build .43

When ripping a cd (ogg) the last track stays in Status "Ripping" even when AW say you can close and the track is ripped.

I just went from like 27 or 29 to 43. Many functions have slowed to a craaaaawl. It seems that eery time I play a new trak, it takes a good 25 or 30 seconds before the program becomes responsive again.

Selective ripping is not working!

I click Rip from the Action Window, uncheck the tracks I no not want, and click rip. MC proceeds to rip all tracks, even unselected tracks.

I've tried this several time, with the same results.

Moving view schemes into the Audio folder delete them after closing and reopening the Media Library.
Deleting the Audio folder and clicking on the Audio-Icon crashes MC.
Making a new Audio folder and clicking on the Audio Icon crashes MC too.
This is not allways the fact. But by playing around with the View Schemes you can crash MC like mentioned above.

Bugs (reported many times):
1. Download Manager (DM) downloads to the wrong directory!!  DM always downloads files to one directory up from the one configured.

2. Doing Ctrl-V in DM to paste a URL from the clipboard causes DM to put the URL in the download list twice...causing the 2nd attempt to always get an error (file already exists dialog).

Speaking of the Download Manager, even though Disable Browser Integration shows as selected in Settings, it seems to reintegrate itself into IEs right-click menu every time I install a new version of MC. I have to start and exit the DM to get it to go away.
