We're just starting work on Media Center 11. From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house. Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

The major changes so far are a rewritten database core, movement towards improved document handling, and a new user-customizable view called "tile view." Many more changes will come with time. We're listening.

BACKUP YOUR LIBRARY BEFORE INSTALLING -- THE DATABASE FORMAT HAS CHANGED AND THERE MAY BE BUGS THAT COULD CAUSE YOUR LIBRARY TO BE LOST

11.0.9 (6/18/04)

1. Fixed: Starting TV playback from Theater View wouldn't always start the correct channel.
2. Fixed: MC could cut off the ends of tracks in some cases. (introduced a build ago)
3. NEW: Added MKV and OGM to the supported formats list. (requires DirectX filters to be installed)
4. NEW: Added Access databases to the MS Office Files association list.
5. NEW: Several program optimizations.
6. Changed: Cancel button in new import system works. (it's not possible to cancel once it's in the final stages of updating the library)
7. Fixed: At the end of the last file, Direct Sound playback could stutter in some cases.
8. Changed: MC no longer unpauses when seeking in a paused audio file.
9. NEW: Added multi-zone synchronization to synchronize multiple playback zones to one another.
10. Fixed: MC would use the file modified date for images and audio, even if they had a date tag. (Library Tools > Update Library From Tags to fix)

If you have multiple playback zones, be sure to check out the new zone synchronization feature. (the fastest way to get to the zone tools is to right-click on the DSP Studio icon next to the position slider)

You may need to play around with the "Timing" setting in Zone Manager to make the zones synch up. For example, I'm getting good results by using -50 ms on my SoundBlaster and 65 ms on my Prodigy 7.1 (ASIO).

Some cards take longer to start the first time, so try the synch a couple times in a row.

Also, for the zones to stay together, you'll need:

Soundcards with clocks that run at the same speed
The between tracks mode and duration the same between the zones
A fast enough computer not to hiccup

After I've instaled this version a box appears when I try to start mc, telling me

Your Media Library is from a diffrent version of MC, and is not compiatible with this version

The DB files in '..\Media Center\data' directory must be moved or erased

How do I fix it? The last working version I know of is v11.0.005 (or maby 6), where the DB worked just fine.

Wow,

I just tried multi-zone synchronization and it works, well almost!

I use zone1 as my analogue source and zone2 as my ASIO source. If I lock to zone2 (zone 1 is playing) I get synch... but, If I change tracks, zone2 is not following and is still playing the previous track while zone1 cross fades to the next track.

I still have to play with the (ms) to find perfect synch, but this is something else...

Zone1 is an onboard C-Media chip
Zone2 is a Revo 7.1 with ASIO4ALL.

Am I doing something wrong?

BTW: Thanks for this cool function, can't wait to fully use it.

Any thing 6 and prior will not work with higher versions... There was a lot of changes to the DB structure.... There is no fix.

When you installed the first build of 11 it automatically backed up your library to :
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Data\Upgrade Backups

Restore this library and reinstall the latest build of 11.... Jim has said that there will be no more DB changes.

position slider is stuck in this version. iow, the time doesn't count up.

adding video files through explorer and the thumbs were images of image files already in database.

The elapsed time stays at 0:00.
The position slider does not move.
The bitrate of the song does not show (? instead)

I am not too sure what I am doing wrong here but I can't seem to be able to open some .MKV files. I can open .OGM but whenever I try to open those .MKV files nothing come out.

I am not sure what's the problem with those .MKV files but it open with The Core Media Player. I got 1 .MKV file which will open with Media Center.

Anyway, just want to say that support for .OGM and .MKV file is sweet.

I'm not sure exactly when this happened, but all my mp3s lost their file extension in the library. Importing didn't work until I deleted them from the library and tried again. Other file types were ok.

I also had to empty the library and reimport for the MP3's to appear.

The previous build (11.0.

set most of my date tags to 2004. How do I get them back to the correct Dates. I have a V10 backup of the database prior to the dates going.

Could somebody please point me in the right direction on how to get MC to work with the new db? What files do I have to delete(?) and how do I get my old db back if I delete these files. I'm dieing to listen to some music right now

I renamed Data folder and then restored the old pre 11 db, Then installed 11, did this a few times...

All I did was delete all the .jmd files from the C:\Program Files\J River\MediaCenter\Data (assuming default install) directory. After installing the new version, just restore your version 10 backup that was created when you installed the first v11 version.

In MC10 I had user-defined fields for my classical collection, like "Orchester", Dirigent", Solist", etc. and chosen to save in file. When I added this user-defined fields in MC11 the fields sray empty. Is there any chance to get the informations for more then 20.000 classical files, or was the information not saved in the files but only in the database.

I have same user defined fields as well plus many others. I am testing MC11 on a separate PC and imported all my files into MC11. The user-defined fields are there. So it is working for me.

If you import your files into a newly created library, you must first recreate those fields in the database, otherwise the won't be imported even if they are stored as tag in the files.

This is a the probable answer to your problem, if you run MC11 on a separate PC and you are going to test the new version separately from MC10.

An easy way to do it is to create a new library by cloning an existing library (Library Manager), delete the content of the new library and reimport all the files. By cloning the library the whole database structure is recreated automatically.

This missing automatic import of user-defined fields has been reported many times, but Matt said that it is very difficult to implement!

Also when you define fields you choose if you want the info to be stored in the actual file if possible. If you've still got a backup of the old library, you can open that in MC10, tick that storing function in the field setup under options and then click OK. MC will then store all those fields (and you will have time for a cup of coffee or something, it will probably take some time!).

When using the Search for Files/Update Library wizard,

If you have a long path it will not display fully in the window, Can we have a Edit button so we can either edit the path or see the full path?

In the Panes, Can you move Unassigned, to the Top of the pane, instead of Alphabetcally?

It alot easier to see if you have a lot of items in that pane...

I had a couple of radio stations saved as playlists - the playlists are still there but the contents had gone. I've set them up again but MC's not displaying any station or track info, just 'HTTP Stream'.
