Media Center 11.0.68 Alpha Available
« on: August 25, 2004, 05:12:02 pm »

We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins still do not work.

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110068.exe

Recent Changes

11.0.68 (8/25/04)

1. Fixed: iPod uploads were not being written to the iPod database.
2. Fixed: Burning of some MP3 files could cause only the first 0:26 to be burned. (introduced 11.0.65)
3. Changed: Simplified Theater View's Playing Now menu.
4. Changed: Entire Media Center frame area accepts file drops to start playback. (instead of just the top portion)
5. NEW: File drops to Media Center's frame honors Ctrl to determine if files are played or added to Playing Now.
6. Fixed: MC would not show up in the taskbar until it was used for a while.

11.0.67 (8/24/04)

1. Fixed: MC wouldn't properly handle CUE files with relative paths.
2. Changed: MC 11 supports MC 10 (and previous) DSP plugins.
3. NEW: Portable Device Management changed to implement WMDM by default. For any device for which we have a plugin, the plugin will be automatically installed. Others will run via WMDM.
For devices which appear as removable or fixed drives, file management is handled by MC and only transfers go through WMDM.
4. NEW: M3U playlist support for generic USB Portable Devices. M3U playlists can be created and managed on Portables that support them.
5. Changed: Portable Device support of 'Album Artist Auto' removed. Field matching will be done on 'Artist' instead.
6. Fixed: Media Server TiVo support could fail to load MC 11's library in some cases.
7. NEW: Revised Theater View navigation model.
8. NEW: Theater View allows custom webpages and programs to be added. (right-click display > Theater View Options)

MC 11 Improvements

  • CUE file playback support with sample-accurate MP3 seeking
  • Many Theater View enhancements
  • Animated Direct3D file browsing
  • Split views so you can look at two (or more) views at the same time (ex. look at Media Library and Playing Now together)
  • Vastly improved database engine capable of handling 100,000's of files and large amounts of metadata (lyrics, bios, etc.)
  • Several memory and speed enhancements -- like database and skin unloading when minimizing MC
  • Much of MC's interface can be translated to other languages
  • Integrated database import and update with smart broken linking repairing, and other nice features
  • MC can run with guest permissions on Windows 2000 / Windows XP
  • New view customization system with more flexibility for thumbnail size, text, etc.
  • Options dialogs reworked -- several small options added
  • Added multi-zone synchronization
  • Added Album Gain support
  • Document support with full text searching / indexing
  • Pane auto-sizing
  • Tile view that allows fully customizable Track Info style tiles to be used in file lists
  • New database caching layer that makes a huge speed difference in many areas of MC
  • File tagging happens in a background thread so MC can continue to be used while it's saving tags
  • Basic image editing
  • Enhanced album grouping for pictures so pictures taken together get grouped without any user intervention
  • Preview mode to only play the intro of songs

Good Evening...

Requests:

**Can you please add    .csv to the supported list. It opens with MS Excell.
**Be able to have the EQ always visible in MegaMe
**Be able to change the tool tip fonts and background color... Would love to be able to use the ThunderStorm windowblinds skin again.
**Any way for you guys to be able to let us specify different Import locations for each library
**Can we be able to view www.last.fm from within MC. This is for the AudioScrobbler Plugin.
** Last Played.. 88:45 ago.. Can this be changed to days after 23:59? ie  1 Day 10:10 instead of 34:10

Thanks for the taskbar fix!  :)

Requests:

1. Allow users to disable autorip so that we have some more control over our workflow. (been requested quite a few times)
2. Option to reduce thread priority for the Analyze Audio function.  Currently, during audio analysis, my computer gets very sluggish. I have been manually adjusting thread priority in Windows Task Manager.
3. Make 'Tools > Options > File Location > Base Path' always be the default for renaming operations.  I would rather change it on the fly for exceptions than have to remember to constantly check it to make sure it is correct.  If I perform a rename and need to change the base path for this one time only, MC defaults to this changed value next time instead of using the "Base Path" defined in options.
4. Remember manual column size adjustments.  Currently MC does not remember width adjustments for a number of columns.  I have "Auto size columns" turned off.

Down the road:
1. I love the new Album Gain support, but I'd really like the ability to make manual adjustments to AG as per the Replay Gain proposal.

D'oh.  Just tried .68 on both computers, one a complete reinstall of MC11.  Now I can't burn _any_ songs whatsoever on either computer - when I try, I get a "Type Mismatch." error box and the burn process just sits there doing nothing til I cancel it.  If direct-decode is off, it pops up even before WAV conversion begins.

File conversion through Library Tools works fine to/from any codec it appears.  Yet I can't burn anything, WAV files inclusive.

-Doug

P.S. - it happens burning a data CD too...so maybe it's something other than the conversion process.

For some reason I have been completely unable to install the last few versions. I'm not entirely sure it's NOT my system, but if so, I have no idea what it could be. What happens is that I get the "Media Center 11 Setup is preparing Install Wizard etc. etc." progress bar, but then once that's done, it goes away and that's it. Nothing more happens.

Anybody else seeing this?

If I do a search for lyrics in a song nothing is returned even though I can pull up the song and see the words in the lyrics field.

I can open v10 and perform the same search and the song is returned.

You need to either:

Explicitly search for lyrics by typing: [Lyrics]=....

or

Make the Lyrics field a default search field in Options > Tree & View so MC searches it when you don't explicitly tell it where to search.

Here's one I've been meaning to report for some time:

If MC displays a dialog and you click on one of the choices, if the button you click on happens to be directly on top of the rating stars, MC will "see through" the dialog and change the rating on the hilighted tracks below.

This definitely happens when you rename files to a new directory and you get the message "Empty folders...  do you want to delete", which I believe is a modal dialog.  I am pretty sure it can happen with non-modal dialogs as well.

When you select several songs and click on a rating, only one song's rating gets changed.  It used to, and I think still should, change all of them.

Scanning of TV channels does not work here (version 65/67/68), Used to work in version 11.0.64.

Using Pinnacle PCTVPro with Pinnacle WDM PCTV Audio/Video Capture drivers.

If you plug in a USB Memory stick that connects to a drive letter and you click handheld, you get a repeating error message: Media Center was unable to initalize the desired handheld. Check that it is plugged in and turned on.

It would be nice to use the handheld mechanism to sync files and library to a notebook. I should be able to define a subset of the library as a notebook has not the space to store all music files.

It could probably be extended to sync all data to external backup drives.

When ripping cd's with the option "Find cover art in internet after ripping" set,  there should be dialogue box asking if we want to get cover art from the scanner if no cover art was found in the internet, so that we can process the ripping of a cd in one single cycle.

Hello all from far Finland and "welcome to my PC" - New forum (again) although i have been registered user since v8.0 MJ...

That (quote) is just basicly why i registered today to announce this same bug with exactly those newest three releases, although my TV-card is HaupPauge WinTV Go and have worked really fine since MJ 8,MC9-10-11!

So i guess it has to be a common problem with TV-card's initializing events (something changed there at v11.0.066, because the installation told me to reboot for a long time although i had always renamed the locked file "MJShellExt.dll" to avoid this?)...

All other TV pins go right at init, but the Video Crossbar always initializes to 0 (Video SVideo In) instead what it should do: go to pin 1 (Video Tuner In)!
That makes the behaviour as following:
I dblclick one of the channels whatever and the channel after a little while goes always to "nput Source 1" (yes the leading I is missing ;) )...

Q: did you..? A: Yes, yes - i did full reinstall from scratch and deleted (saved first) all my reg.keys and even Music Library (took a backup) and same problem still with all those latest releases with and after bad luck num .066 release!
Also tried previous version and it worked just well as before...

Funnies thing is that in all three view modes when the graphic "Prev" and "Next" Channel buttons are visible the channels becomes to work after once pressed either direction...(Shortcut keys Ctrl-L & Ctrl-N brings the view back to Input Source #1 instead what they used to do..)

Also: The sequence "right-mouse menu - channels - select channel" seems to work just fine like before!

Summa summarum: The errors are 1) initial TV-start, 2) Left DblClick Channel list, 3) the Shortcut Keys for Prev and Next and 4) Now playing window where only R-Mouse menu works!
Prev & Next Buttons do work and what's best the R-Menu! Also no problems when recording....

I can handle this situation and wait for fix as long as needed, i'm no hurry-man and this is just partly decreasing the functionality. But it took for me some time to figure out all upper "as technically as possible".. :)

The TV has always been my favourite part of MC10 (and 11-beta) after unsuccesfull version 9 that made horrible AVI-files after unbelievable long conversion with the "temporary file". Those long ones vere impossible to cut-edit f.e. with TMPGEnc etc! Now the AVI-Files are fine and standard through DirectShow and the voice is in sync with the "faces", happy for that one (and many many more wishes come alive)!!

BTW: 1000's GigaThanks for worlds absolutely best for sure awards-winning jukebox that have all what one can wish and really well done. I know when i load beta versions from FTP directly, that i'm kinda participating to beta-testing and i should have been reported more, but always someone else have been more fast  8) !

(and sorry for my long style of writing - i don't mean any harm with that one...)

Yours with peace: Timppa

Explicitly search for lyrics by typing: [Lyrics]=....

or

Make the Lyrics field a default search field in Options > Tree & View so MC searches it when you don't explicitly

I can set the lyrics field as a default search field and that works.  However that brings back a lot of results that I wouldn't normally want as I usually search by just song title or artist.

If I do an explicit search via [Lyrics]= it does not bring everything back.

For example if I search for [Lyrics]="highway" and then right click and customize with wizard it show about 30 songs.  I select them all and notice that Steppenwolf - Born To Be Wild is not included even though it has lyrics and the word "highway" in the lyrics field.  Performing the same search in v10 yields the correct results.

Also I can't just type the search string in anymore and get results, I have to customize with wizard and select from their.  Once I type in = after [Lyrics] it changes the format of the field and I can put anything in quotes and it will return nothing.

Ripping and encoding MP3 CBR does so at 3 or 4 kbps less than it should (eg 192kbps encodes at 188kbps). Surely this isn't unique to me?

I had the same problem yesterday. I had installed some programs such as Spybot, Spyblaster, Spyguard, all those spy catching programs and then to my surprise the latest version of MC11 did not go beyond the setup progress bar. Deinstalling everything and reinstalling did not help either. Only after removing Spyblaster and Spyguard I was able to install MC11 again. Those two are real time spy catching programs and seem to interfere quite heavily with the system and IE. Spybot seems to be OK. It is still there.

Lesson learned: Too much security can be harmful and a real time waster. Lost half a day just getting back to normal.

It's just a difference in how we do the math.

Lame kilobit = 1000 bits
MC kilobit = 1024 bits

Windows generally uses 2-based file sizes, but I've seen other places say a kilobit is 1000 bits.

Either way, we'll switch it next build.
