Error Message Every Time
« on: November 16, 2004, 08:03:29 pm »

Everytime I start up Media Center I get the following message: "This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.  Choose ‘Switch To’ to activate the busy program and correct the problem."  This is every TIME!  No matter if I restart it, end its process, uninstall it (won't do that again - too much of a pain to reset it up).  Please help!!!  Btw - this is the latest version of 10.

Can you post your system specs.... Sounds like a memory issue... Not a MC issue...

Try a new download.  Don't use a download manager.

It is a weird problem and may have an unusual solution.  Virus checkers, firewalls, popup stoppers, etc. can do strange things sometimes.

A third party plug-in?

Do you have any memory readers or handhelds connected?  I seem to remember a strange problem with a memory reader in a laptop causing something like this.

If you do, try disabling them and see if it makes any difference.

Thanks.

I have both a reader and a PocketPC connected.  I speculating that it's not a third-party plugin.  Rarely do I have MC opening up with a third party plugin initiated (though this might not matter, I don't know).  I do not use a download accelerator.  I am using Norton Antivirus and Internect Security.

Try disconnecting the devices and let us know if it makes a difference and we can dig some more.

I suspect that it might be the card reader (or possibly if you have a digital camera attached that you didn't mention).  I had this EXACT problem (with that very error message) when I tried to start up MC or import Photos with my Canon S50 attached to the system.

The buggy default windows driver was causing it, and cleared up when I downloaded and installed the driver from Canon.
