Purchase options and apps
« on: October 28, 2015, 02:16:21 pm »

Here is my simple Q(s).

My use interface after download and purchase will be:
-Desktop and convertible laptop running Windows 10
-iPod Touch (I use primarily to control SONOS) for which there is an app
-Windows 8.1 Phone for which there is now an app (strangely SONOS still does not)

Q1: Do either the Windows or or Windows/Apple licenses come with the mobile apps for the iPod and or Windows Phone or are they separate Apple Store/Windows Store purchases?

Q2: If the answer to Q1 is "separate purchases" do I need the combo Win/iOS option to run the the Apple app for the iPod Touch?

None of the licenses include mobile apps. You can get JRemote in the Apple store for about $10 (there is no JRemote for the Windows phone); otherwise, you might be able to find some other mobile apps that might work with Media Center for free. You could always check one of the device forums for what other users might recommend.

You will not need a master license to work with mobile apps. The master license is only if you intend to install Media Center on multiple platforms. Also, if you decide you need a master license at a later date, you can always upgrade to one, but if you only intend to install Media Center on a single platform, a regular license will work.

It seems there is a third party mobile app for Windows called GCDJ. Rated 4.5 stars by a whopping 2 people, so for a free trial or $4.99 I can editorialize later.

At a quick glance, that third-party Windows Phone app seems to be several years old so it may or may not work, not sure. Since Windows Phone isn't exactly a popular mobile OS with a big market share, finding working apps may be fruitless endeavor.

For the best experience with mobile devices, it's recommended to use JRemote for iOS and Gizmo (free), JRemote (paid) or eos (paid) for Android.
