Hi,

I want to point out that MC 21 deletes the leading space automatically. This becomes a problem, because other programs such as Dj software use the comment field for their tags and are unable to detect the comment correctly. In my case its Pioneer Rekordbox. One of the major Dj softwares on the market.

Please stop the automatic and just change tags/spaces by using the command. "Clean files from properties"

Yeah. I don't get it at all.

Update Library from Tags alters only MC's internal database, and isn't used by external tools (at least, not by ones not designed to interact with MC via MCWS or the COM interface, which is certainly not the case here).

So, if it cleans anything, it cleans it inside MC's database.

If he meant Update Tags from Library instead, I suppose it might write whitespace-trimmed tags to the files. I don't know that it does, but, frankly, I think it should even if it doesn't already.

In what case, specifically, does it matter? What in the name of dog is some other application doing where you have to prefix a field with whitespace??

I made a gif about the problem I got. I hope its better to understand.
I'm tagging my music with Rekordbox Dj. Rekordbox writes the custom tags into the comments field with a prefix of " /*"
As soon as MC updates the tag, Mc overwrites the prefix from " /*" to "/*" and Rekordbox is unable to detect the custom tags.

I attached a gif picture with a reproduction:
- Write a lot of spaces in the beginning of the comments field
- use 'update library from tags'
-> all leading spaces are gone

As a result:
+ update library from tags
+ update tags from library
_____________________
= erases all leading spaces

=> All external tags are screwed up.


If there is a letter in the beginning of the comments field, MC saves the comments properly without any changes.

That's a really unusual situation that another program would want and need special formatting in the Comments field.  You don't need to see these spaces in the comments field in MC though right?  It's just for the external software?  Ok good.

You can disable tag writing from MC entirely so MC can't write to your files anymore.  You can still make changes to MC's library fields as much as you want.  They just won't get written back to the files.

Tools > Options > General > Importing & Tagging > update tags when file info changes > (uncheck)

I don't know how you're using MC and your other program together, so this may or may not help.  That software seems like it's very non-standard.

I use MC with several Pc&Mac at home for private listening/cinema/streaming/tagging and dj preparation.
My workaround became inserting a period in every comment as a place holder.

Mac and Windows versions of MC delete white spaces/leading spaces.
I want to make the developers aware of the unusual automation.

It would be nice if comment changes would be limited to "Clean file properties"

We purposely strip leading and trailing spaces.  They cause a problem when sorting, so it's reasonable to do, in my opinion.

Your DJ software probably shouldn't be relying on this kind of tag modification.
