Help, music cutting out, then comes back on

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and then upgraded from MC18 to 21.  Now music that I have played many times before cuts in and out during play. 

Dell XPS8300 pc with 6Gb ram and ASUS Xonar Essence STX Audio card

Can anyone suggest how to troubleshoot this?  Thanks in advance.

Same antivirus - Bitdefender - as before upgrades.  Current version.

It still may be the problem.  Make sure it's not checking every media file every time it's opened, or the MC library itself.
