Modify thumbnail text in theater view
« on: February 05, 2016, 09:16:36 am »

This is possible in standard view.

For example, I’m currently using…

>[Name]<//b>
[Description]

Anyway to do the same in theater view?

Have a look under Options/Theater View/Customize file info panel/. Select the Template you would like to change, click Manage button and select Edit Template.

You can change the caption there.

Described in detail here:

The rest of that thread might be interesting to you as well.

Unless I’m missing something editing the template doesn’t apply to the thumbnail text, just the text in a list.

“Captions are used when showing a file in a list. The expanded version is shown when the file is selected in a details list (if empty the regular caption is used).”

So I’m thinking what I’m aiming for is not possible at this level.

As an aside... how do you get the formatting text to display in a post? I noticed that part of the expression I displayed was stripped.

HA HA .. I (and others here) would like to see thumbnail text in theater view.  Read Glynor's link and I can give you a bunch of others ;) The "expression to display" box does not, unfortunately, work the same way as the thumbnail text does (which uses a variable called [Name] that has nothing to do with the field of the same "title"

(just curious, Apostos ...  do you want to use expressions to flip artist sort from Last, Name and display First Name Last Name  and/or have some issues with splitting multiple entries per tag (using the semi-colon)?)

For anything like Expressions that you want to show without any changes, preserving spacing, etc, you should use the CODE tags.  Something like
[ code ]expression stuff here [ / code ]

I deliberately broke the code tags by putting spaces inside them so they would show up here and not be interpreted as tags.  Just take out the spaces and they will work normally.

I'm confused.

You can absolutely modify the captions of files in Theater View, no matter what type of View Style (thumbs, etc) they're using (at least, the non "wall" type ones that have no captions). All of mine are customized.

You must mean something else. Do you mean the names of Categories (like the [Series] "tier" of a [Series]\[Season] style view of TV Show episodes)?

I'm confused.

Welcome to my world.  :P

In standard view MC gives you the opportunity to modify the thumbnail text. I used this…

Code: [Select]
<b>[Name]<//b>
[Description]

to add a second line of text. I was hoping to do the same in theatre view. I’ve been looking for a way to differentiate albums I have that are duplicates. Same artist – same title. Without fudging the album name.

Ideally, what I’d like to accomplish is an album view in which identical albums show up as fanned thumbnails (similar to the effect in artists view - right now I can only get them to display as one) Clicking on the thumbnail opens up a second view showing the individual albums with the title and the description.

Arindelle... nothing that exciting I'm afraid.

Brian... thanks for heads-up regarding the 'Insert Code' function.

I've uploaded an image, but have yet to receive the reply email with the link from the pix01 server.
So no image I'm afraid...

So, you are looking to modify Category captions, not thumbnail captions. That's why I was confused.

You can do that by modifying the category itself.

Sorry... I was modifying my post (trying to get an image into it) when you replied.

At the risk of sounding dense... what do you mean by modifying the category captions and how does one go about doing so?

Ok... I was able to accomplish most of what I wanted by doing as you suggested. Fanned thumbnails are still a work in progress.
