Connexions issues between Macbook pro and JRemote
« on: May 31, 2016, 07:24:43 am »

Hello

I'm Marc from France... my English Is really bad... sorry
I have problems...
When my Mac Is on sleep mode, I can't control It with JRemote (Ipad or Iphone)
I have to start the Mac first with the trackpad, reboot JRemote to have a connexion

Strange because on my PC I have no problem
I can start JRemote first, leave the sleep mode and play music

More stange, I've installed Audirvana on my Mac and I've had no problems...
Can start JRemote first, leave the sleep mode and play the music on my Mac...

I can't use Audirvana because I have many albums on my NAS and Audirvana Is very slow !

Thanks for your help !

The function you are looking for is called Wake on Lan.  If you can't do it with JRemote, perhaps you can find an app that can do just that.  If you have an Android, try Gizmo to see what it does.  That would tell us whether the problem is in JRemote or on the Mac.

Thanks a lot for your answer

I don't think the problem Is on the Mac because like I told, I can do that with another player (Audirvana) and his remote on my Mac
And I don't think the JRemote Is the problem because It works well on my PC

On the JRemote settings I can read :

"MAC address
MAC address is required for Wake on Lan. If fields is empty, you can add one manually or re-add the server using access key"

Can you please explain to me how can I fin the MAC number ?

Thanks

It's a property of your network hardware.  Please try an Internet search for how to find it.

To find the MAC address of your network card:

System Preferences > Network > (choose the network adapter you are using) > Advanced > Hardware

You should see the MAC Address listed at the top.  Note that the acronym MAC means Media Access Control.  It is unrelated to the name Macintosh.  It's just a coincidence that they share the first 3 letters.

Yes, funny I have to find the Mac of the Mac !!!
I find those numbers and letters : xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Is that right ?

I've entered those numbers in the JRemote settings at "Mac address"... entered the "Access key" and "address", but the problem Is always the same
Wake on Lan doesn't work !!! Can't wake the Macbook with JRemote !

Yes the "funny letters and numbers" in 6 parts is the MAC address.

You might also need to tell the Mac it's ok to wake on LAN.  See the first screen shot here:

Yes, I believe JRemote has Wake On LAN built in.  The reason I sent the link was for the part that shows how to configure the Mac to make sure it is able to Wake On LAN.

Thanks Brian

I'm stupid ! of course JRemote has a built in Wake on Lan because it works with my Asus PC and my Hewlett Packard PC, but not with the Macbook !
My Macbook has the good setup and I'm sure it has the WOL enable because it works perfectly with my second player and his remote (Audirvana)
The Audirvana remote on the Iphone or Ipad has no settings so i can't see parameters settings

I don't understand the second part of the set up
In System Prefs window, “Network”, the Macbook has a Wifi AND an Ethernet connexion (for the NAS connexion), and i don't see why do i have to note the machine IP address

Thanks
Marc

Never mind.  I was just trying to show you one setting.  If it works with other applications, then I guess the Macbook must be configured correctly for wake on lan.  I'm not sure what to tell you now.  I don't have very much experience with this.  I don't turn computers off very often; I tend to leave them running most of the time, or in sleep mode.
