I am a newbie here, so sorry if this question has been asked before.

When I am trying to rip a non-english (in this case, it is chinese) cd with mc9.1 (as well as 9.0 for that matter), I would get stuck in the "copying" and the program will hang. I have to kill it. MC has no problem to display the names in chinese.

And  if I turn off the "look up info from internet" option, and using only generic names like track1, track2, etc. The program works. Wonder if anyone has seem this before??

It sounds like it's getting stuck in the YADB lookup.  That could be a network or firewall problem.  I'm sorry, but I'm not sure.

Be certain that you have a current version.

I don't think it is the database  look up problem since MC9 can display the name and tracks correctly in chinese after I inserted the CD. And after I press the "rip CD" button, all the tracks' name are display correctly in the "Rip CD" form.
It gets stuck after I pressed the start button. It will do the initialization first,
and the it will get stuck in the "copy" stage.

I even tried to turn off  the "analyze audio" option to see if it makes any difference, and it doesn't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Do you have the encoder plug-in that you are trying to use?

Yes, I do.
Like I said before, if I use generic names for the tracks
and album, MC9 is working fine. Wonder if it has any problem to create file with non-english name under XP??

After looking into a bit more, I found out that it is not the ripping part that
caused the problem but MP3 encoder did.
I separated the ripping and encoding process, and the ripping part is running
fine. However, the MP3 plugin failed to encode the track.

I have tried to rip it into a wmv file and use the library tool to convert that
to mp3, and it also failed.

Any suggestion??

You could visit the plug-ins page and download the MP3 plug-in again.  Turn off any special settings you have.

Make sure you have the latest version of MC.

Well, I think the problem is with LAME. I downloaded and install again and it
still refuses to encode the track with chinese title.

But I do find a workaround. I need to change the names of the directory and the
actual filename which the track is being stored in XP to some english names,
like "Dummy/CD1" as the dir name and use track number as the filename. Then
LAME has no problem to encode the song to mp3. And the good thing is MC9
still maintains the tags and display them correctly in the media library!!
