10M DisplayPort 1.2 certified 4K 60hz cable
« on: December 06, 2016, 02:23:44 am »

Hope this thing works - most expensive cable I've ever bought!  I'll post and let you know tomorrow!

Buying into snakeoil now? :)
DP cables can't offer any fancy features beyond a DP certification. Once they have that, they are all pretty much equal.

Anything above 3 meters for DP starts to limit the features however, and no cable can realistically fix that, unless it has active signal boosters.

I'm with Hendrik on this, however Lindy does make very good (bulit quality, shielding) cables (at least that is my experience until now). Another qood brand for cables IMO is Sommer, e.g. http://shop.sommercable.com/en/Cables/Computer-Media-Cables/Multimediakabel-DISPLAYPORT-HI-DPDP-1500.html

Might need another sound test in MC for cables.

I'm telling ya, Jim, there is money to be made in cables. Get Matt a set of crimpers. Call em the copperhead black gold line!

Anywho, 10M seems like quite the run for a DP cable. Good luck with that.

I too was looking at the specs for 10m cables (HDMI in my case) as I need the long run from the AVR to the PJ/TV.  I could find nothing definitive but ended up paying a bit (not a lot) more for one that "claimed" to have better shielding as the cable is also laid next to power, Ethernet, and speaker cables.... Probably snake oil as well for all I know.

HDMI supports longer cable runs then DP, but its available bandwidth is also lower then DP. 10m with good cables for HDMI is usually fine (ie. good shielding and high gauge).
On that note, I wish TVs would start adopting DP for higher signal capabilities like 10-bit 4K 60Hz RGB, which HDMI 2.0 does not allow.

This is what it takes to get 4K 60hz over 10M (~33Feet).  It works flawlessly.

This cable weighs about 1Kilogram (2.2 Pounds).

Gold plated

Heavy gauge wire multi-shielded and really stiff

$220 Aussie Dollars later...

and a nice zipper bag ;)

Here is the Lindy 10M certified DP 1.2 HBR2 cable compared to a High Quality 5M cable (also Lindy DP 1.2 HBR2) which struggled to sync @ 4K 60hz and a cheap 1.8M cable. Note the difference in thickness and quality.

You get what you pay for - particularly for DisplayPort.  I tried the two Lindy high Quality DP 5M cables with a Lindy DP booster and couldn't get better than 4K 30hz.  The gold 10M worked first go - no flicker - instant sync @ 4K 60hz.

PS - that's a passive cable BTW. ;)

and

1080P is nothing even for cheap cables I have 15M and 25M booster HDMI cables that work perfectly at 1080P. 4K is hard work over more than 3 to 5M when you want full features ie 10bit 4:4:4 or 4:2:2 HDR and 4K 60hz. (I'm only running 8bit because that's all my monitor supports)
