Hi Guys,

Um I may be missing something (usually am) but I just noticed that MC will only play in 2ch format now.
Was 6ch and that's one of the reasons I bought it.
Setup is:
Windows 8.1, HDMI output to Yamaha receiver, set to "Surround decode".

While trialling, it definitely did 5.1 output (I checked by pressing my ear up to the speakers!), from my favourite sources.
Since then there was an update, (didn't get a chance to say no to that).

Today when I played some stuff, I noticed nothing much in the rear channels so I started investigating
Anyway, I found "audio path" and it said it was using 32kbps 2ch. No idea why or when this changed.
Then I found "DSP Studio" which looked like I could force it back to 6ch.
Tried "direct" and "wasapi" but don't really know what worked before, so I'm just lost & fed up now.
I've tried rebooting, didn't seem to fix anything.
Should I uninstall & re-install? Will that reset everything back to what it was before?

Any suggestions very welcome.
Thanks in advance

Check the WASAPI settings in Windows Sound properties too. Sometimes they get reset there.
I keep DSP Studio settings to "Source" - but everyone's setup is different.

I am not sure exactly what your problems are.  But, you do not want to set Channels (meaning output channel configuration) to 6 or to Source Number of Channels if you are doing Mch from SACD.

Here is a recent thread on that problem:

But, you might have other problems in addition to that.

Hi Chaps,

Thanks for those answers, much appreciated.
The SACD one prompted me to dig deeper & try a few other options.
I have no idea why, but seems the "output encoding" had been cleared down.
Set it to "Dolby Digital" and now it's working again.
I think I'll try a few other settings for that value depending on the source (test#1 was a Genesis DVD-A in Dolby Digital).
Perhaps other sources may need other formats, or maybe MC does that conversion for me - let's see after writing down ALL the working settings!
If I get something useful I'll add a note later.

You learn something every day.
Another tiny fragment of knowledge to add to the rubbish pile in my head.
