I have been using a 1TB HDD connected to my Id Pi by a SATA USB adapter without issue.
I just upgraded to a 2TB Crucial MX300 SSD and it doesn't show up. Not only that but it also makes a clicking noise.
Both drives were formatted on Windows with NTFS GPT.

Does anyone have any thoughts on why it isn't working?

On the Pi, USB drives are enabled to read/write.
I tested with a couple HDDs and they show up in auto import.
When browsing to them, their contents are shown in the "media" folder.

When the SSD is connected the only thing shown in the media folder is one folder named "boot".

I don't have other SSD to test with to see if the issue is with my new drive specifically or all SSDs.
The new drive works fine with Windows 10.
I just copied all of my music to it without issue.

Both the SATA adapter and the SSD have current firmware.

I yanked a 128GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD out of old laptop and it also doesn't show up on the Pi.
I suspect The Id Pi isn't capable of reading SSDs.

Can this be confirmed?
Will it be possible in the future?

Looks like I may have bought a very expensive paper weight.

I spent the afternoon searching for solutions before posting here.
Most obvious source of problems is a lack of power. My SATA adapter has external power so that shouldn't be the issue.
I have a different model somewhere that I'm trying to find. I will give it a try.

There's lots of info about formatting on Linux but nothing really too useful or definitive that I have found.

I'm curious if SSDs are even supported, or if anyone else has one working.

I'm trying to determine if the problem has to do with the drive or the Pi.
If the drive has issues then it's going back, if the Pi is the issue then I'll keep it as a paper weight.
(Or a Christmas present for Jim)

I have the weekend to figure it out. I'm leaving for a month on Tuesday, so if it's getting returned I need to know by then.

I have a small SSD on my Pi with a USB SATA adapter, but its my dev Pi running Debian Jessie, not an IdPi image (and the SSD is formatted with linux filesystems).

If the SSD is one of the newer nvme-SSDs, the complete support for those landed in the linux kernel fairly recently (a year or two ago), so depending on what kernel the Id pi is using it may not be recognized by the OS.  If you have access to a terminal on it, what do you see when you type in "lsblk" or "lsusb"?

My issue is fixed, the problem was power.

The Pi can output 1.2A but my SSD requires 1.7A. Because of this I was was using a sata adapter with a 2A external power adapter. Apparently it's not really 2A because it doesn't work. I now have a 2.5A USB hub between my Pi and the SSD and I'm not using the sata adapter's power supply. All is working. My SSD is formatted to NTFS. It's an interesting fix since SSDs are suppose to use less power than HHDs which have no issues on my Pi. Note that the drive was clicking while under powered, so I guess that is a symptom.
