As reported in another thread, my ASIO output under Audio is not available in the 64bit version, but it is and works fine under the 32bit version. Is this to be expected? Could it be that I need a special 64bit ASIO driver for  it to appear in the MC 64bit version?

Is anybody else seeing this?

64-bit Media Center needs a 64-bit ASIO driver. If your hardware manufacturer does not provide that out of the box, you should inquire there.

I think I'll wait for 30 days until I update...just like I do Windows updates for the city where I'm the Network Administrator.  I'd rather there be time to work all the bugs out on the "other end" before I create more work for myself.  I'll keep an eye on this  thread, though.  I'm only using the audio portion of JRiver for 2 channel only and no movies, surround, etc. etc., so some of this stuff might not affect me.  Still gonna wait, though.

Thank you. I thought so. I have received a firmware from the vendor enabling me to use the new native USB Audio 2.0, so all is good.

Did an install today:
  • Lost my licence code and deducted 1 from my 10 available to reapply :-(
  • Doesn't detect my AK70 handheld (32-bit version is fine). Attempting to re-detect, reboots etc doesn't fix
  • Removing 32-bit version after 64-bit install killed all my MC shortcuts

I've reverted to the 32-bit version until the handheld thing is resolved. If anyone from JRiver wants diagnostic info just let me know and I'll be happy to help

A few quick comments:
  • You get 10 available within a 12 month period, not 10 for the rest of your life.
  • Each license code is good for 14 days. That means during a 12 month period you get 140 days (20 weeks) of a license code available.
  • A single license code can be used on all your PC's. I used a single code for upgrading to 64-bit on my laptop, HTPC, and office PC.
  • Most will upgrade to the next version of JRiver before using 10 codes in a 12 month period.
  • Finally, JRiver will reset your code count if you ask them nicely.

Thanks for the new 64-bit version of JRiver MC23.

Seems to run smoothly here, except: as others have reported downloading MC 23.0.60 64-bit meant loosing ones registration info, but that was fixed by restoring the registration code - as was proposed here.

Moreover, as recommended by the admin I uninstalled MC23 32-bit, but once done the MC icon in the process line at the bottom of the screen, used for easy 1-click activation of MC, was no longer functioning - of course since MC23 32-bit had been uninstalled. But how do I (re-)create the same 1-click easy access for MC23 64-bit? We can only downloaded the specific build 23.0.60, and so every time the program runs its installation process instead of simply opening MC immediately. Sorry if there's an easy (i.e.: obvious) fix for this, but I'm a PC novice..

Lastly, upon downloading MC23 64-bit and restoring the registration code my 64-bit W10 Pro called for some updates, which I then did, but after restart I couldn't get any sound from Blu-ray playback. Checked all settings, all seemed OK. Then I restarted again, and this time around a pop-up window alerted me of something like "Failed to open parse file 00045-ish"(??) Tried numerous times to get the Blu-ray disc to play, but to no avail. Then I chose to uninstall the latest Windows updates I'd just made (thank god this is possible), and after restart I was yet again able to play back my Blu-rays - with sound. Could this indicate a problem with the new Windows updates and MC23 64-bit (and even the 32-bit version)? Upcoming Windows 10 updates to my knowledge cannot be skipped - only temporarily..

Find the MC23 app, then right click and drag where you want it.  Choose "create shortcut".

Hmm, what part of the "app"? I can create a shortcut, but then it runs through its installation process again instead of starting the program immediately..

Try a Google search for how to create a shortcut.

Try a Google search for how to create a shortcut.

Now I got it, thank you.

Additional question: my HTPC is an older bugger, and using madVR as renderer for watching Blu-rays has had a tendency to sport sync problems between sound and image (the processor is too weak, I gather). With the new 64-bit MC23 however this problems seems to be more or less alleviated. Could the 64-bit version really have an influence here?

Just installed the 64-bit version. Installation went fine. Then I needed to rip some CD's. It finds the disc info fine, but as it rips it changes every track to Track 1, Artist Unknown, Album Unknown. It is saving the file in the correct file with Artist/Album/Song Title in the file name, but it's gone from the recently ripped screen.

Is this a 64-bit bug? Is it a known aberration? Did I do something that is causing this?

Thanks,
Kevin

Working great on my Win 7 Pro x64, NVIDIA 980 Ti SOC, LG OLED55C6P 4K, and Gustard X12 DAC w/ JBL Subwoofer and Studio Monitor setup.

Definitely faster than x86 version.

Thank you JRiver!  Best Media Player!

A known problem, already fixed in the next release. Don't rip anything until you have it!  ;)

Just done an upgrade installation from 32 bit 23.0.46 (in which all was well) to 64bit 23.0.60 and all remains well with the exception that my TV and network radios are no longer seeing the Media Center DLNA server. I've checked with the local firewall disabled to ensure that nothing was getting inadvertently blocked but that wasn't it. Things look OK as far as the Media Center configuration settings are concerned and I don't believe I've overlooked anything.

Suggestions please.

Try disabling DLNA, save with an OK, then re-enable DLNA. That helped for someone else with a similar issue on 64bit.

You could try:
rebooting
disabling and re-enabling Media Network.

OK - mea culpa. The problem was, fortunately, a firewall misconfiguration which, when corrected, brought the DLNA to life.

It's very easy to miss a simple dot in a path name late at night. Things now appear to be as they were - sorry to have given you some anxious moments.

Well I plopped down on the couch tonight to stream some shows with this new version and everytime I would start a show it would freeze and I would have a Media Center has stopped working looking for a solution pop up on my pc. I rebooted to the same issue. Uninstalled X64 version and went back to X86 and it's working fine. Don't know what the issue is but I guess I'll wait for a definitive version to be released instead of a beta. Was nice and snappy also switching menu's and scrolling through titles in my living room unlike the boggy and hesitating 32bit counterpart.  :-/

Exciting news, this is a great direction for the software. Thanks for your work.

I noticed two problems in my setup:

I have a Pi ID set up as a network player. It doesn't appear as a DLNA zone in 64 bit MC.

Also, remote control command learning doesn't work yet, under PlayPower using a USB-UIRT device.

Both problems were solved by rolling back to 32 bit version and uninstalling 64 bit. Of course, there may be another reason causing the problems, because computers etc. Happy to test once time frees up over here.

64 bit Installation OK thanks!
the only question is abount licensing: I bought a regular JRiver 23 but the system is asking to re-enter the license key again and I am notified about a temporary license key installed. What's underneath? should I buy a license for 64bit (hope not)?

From what I see, the majority of posts on the 64-bit version are video related.

What kind of improvement with audio, if any, should I expect from upgrading?  Currently using JRMC20.

What kind of improvement with audio, if any, should I expect from upgrading?  Currently using JRMC20.

For example, there's the SoX resampler for resampling as an option, TPDF dithering as an option and the memory playback options are available for audio in the newer Media Center versions.

Get the point about the licence - was confused why it did what it did but no matter.

More importantly for me is the fact that it doesn't see my handheld which works fine in the 32-bit version, same device, same PC, same cable, different MC23s

Is this a known problem?

I really really miss the Windows 7 Taskbar Plugin. Very close to reverting back to 32 just for it! I wish on a star that the maker can update it for x64 :) Author: Mr. ChriZ....or someone new with the knowledge to update it.

Installing 64 bit version of JRiver Media Center
« Reply #87 on: September 21, 2017, 12:39:03 pm »

Not sure how else to report this. The instructions for the 64 bit version say to install it and then uninstall the 32 bit version. When you do so via Windows 10 Control Panel it removes your desktop icon and all references to JRiver in the Start menu. Reinstalling the 64 bit version did not install anything on the desktop or the Start Menu. I have gotten accustomed to having Windows track what just got installed and putting folders in the Start Menu for me so I got a bit confused. Eventually I gave up and found the ../Program Files directory (have not had to do that for a few years guys) and drug out the exe file to get a desktop icon. OK I may be pretty old school about the desktop icon as that seems to be going out of favor but there should be something installed in the Windows Start menu, yes?

Is the ignore article feature working in 23.0.60-64bit ?

I ask because I've just noticed that all the "The" entries in my library (sorted by Artist) are lumped together and toggling Tree & View/Sorting/Ignore Articles doesn't change this.

Is this my problem or yours?

You did better than I did! On two machines, I had the same experience with the desktop icon and start menu removing all traces of MC. I assumed that Windows had uninstalled both versions, including the 64 bit, because the control panel of programs and features showed both to be gone. I had to reinstall 64 bit from scratch and reregister it on both PCs. I didn'tt document it well enough to report as a bug, so thanks!

So, I took the risk! - I installed the 64 bit version on my "Production"-HTPC in my living room. Uninstalled 32 bit version->Install 64 bit Version->Restore Library from Backup.

Working perfect :). LG_Cymatic_Jazz_HDR10 play's in its full "Glory" without any hitches. I played other videos and audio files - no problem so far.

Great Job! Congratulations!

I had the impression that the 64 bit version sounds a little bit different, but .... you know :)

Handheld support isn't in the 64-bit build yet, according to Hendrik. Same with Dolby Digital encoding.

This is correct. These are the two big features not currently working, which need to be rebuild since they relied on old things that can't be easily updated to 64-bit.

Put aside some time to install the 64 bit version tonight.  I was ready to dig in.  Took about 4 minutes.  Everything I need/use works perfectly.  I have some time left over!!!  Thanks.

Odd.  Settings?  You could start a thread if you want help.  It's not something I recall seeing.
All imported with a backup from the x86 version. I've gone through and looked things over and it all seems fine. I don't know if it was in relation to watch all vs watch but I did select watch all each time I was trying to play 2 shows.

Should there be a "64-bit caveats/missing features" list or something added to the first post? Since Dolby Digital and handheld support is currently missing from the 64-bit builds.

There is a strong warning in the build thread:

"This is an early build of JRiver Media Center 23 for Windows 64-bit, recommended for advanced users only. You may experience new problems, so please back up your library before installing."

I think that's enough.  Any differences should rapidly disappear.

If you're not able to cope with a few problems, please don't use it.

I think that is more than enough warning. Yet, people who are definitely not advanced users are already writing to me, asking whether they should upgrade. They're chomping at the bit, but I tell them all it will be a great upgrade in a few weeks; for now it would be more painless to keep going with the 32-bit version you've been happy with until now.
These are not people who would report bugs, but rather would be unhappy if things didn't work exactly as they were used to.

As for myself, I run several PCs with MC on them, and I have upgraded to 64-bit even on our family's main viewing room. I don't know why they put up with me. :)
