How to change artist name in library
« on: October 12, 2017, 04:45:41 am »

I have a few tracks and artists in my library that are mislabeled, like this one Tom Petty track that's completely separated from the rest of the album, and for the life of me I can't figure out how to get them back together.

I've exhausted my intuition on this one. I don't know what to do. Any ideas?

One of the tags (probably artist or album artist)

Yeah, looks like the Artist and/or the Album Artist tag has a 09. before the artist's name (in this case, Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers, R.I.P.). Or it's missing the Artist and/or Album Artist tags.

Any way to change that without opening the albums, and selecting the track?

Because when I do this is what I see

It's all good.

Open the Tagging Window with Edit > Tag .  Then you can see ALL of the tags.  You can also edit them in that Tagging Window.  You will probably find that the [Album Artist] tag has that funny "09. Tom.." value in it.  I would erase the [Album Artist] field if that's what it has.

When you're done, select a different view, then come back to this view.  You might also have to press the refresh button to see your changes take effect.  Good luck!

Awesome. I never knew you could edit tags like that. Thanks for the pro tip.

Unfortunately same thing.

I checked, and changed, all the tags, changed the view, changed the And to an ampersand, removed and re added it to the library, and right clicked, went to library tools, update tags(from library) without success.

Also went to the file, changed the file name so it has no "09." in it, and it still shows up when I add it to the library again.

Any ideas?

Since it's a single FLAC file, upload it to a file sharing site (e.g. OneDrive, Dropbox, Mega, etc.) and send me a link to it via private message and I'll fix it for you. :)

Fixer:  The field you are looking for is [Album Artist] .  Notice that field isn't showing in your Tag Window.  To show more tags, look in the upper left corner of the Tag Window and click that square with the lines through it.  You can choose "show all tags" to show everything.  There will be a LOT of fields.  But they are in alphabetical order, so easy to find what you want.

Go find [Album Artist] and you will probably see the issue.  If it has that "09.." value in it, erase it.

BTW, that Tag Window is really the most powerful way to edit your tags.  You can change several at once (for example album name for a whole group of tracks) and a whole lot more.

Actually, you should look at the [Artist] tag in addition to the [Album Artist] tag.

Awesome Donkey:  Look at his screen shot up above which shows the [Artist] tag...

Why not search for the offending text , that will show where it is as "Artist" or "Album Artist"

Simplest is to look at ALL Tags for that text on that file , it will be there somewhere

^ Oh wow!  I didn't know that the search box, in the New Tag Window actually searched the content of the tags *and* the tag names themselves.  I thought it was only tag names.

Now our OP is using the old Tag Window so...
