Constant spinning wheel and Duplicate Smartlist question

I am looking at the trial version of the media player before I decide to buy. Do other Mac users experience a slow interaction with the app? I get the spinning wheel and have to wait a lot while using the app, just for music.

I tried to make a Duplicate Smartlist, but in the results, I don't see at least two of the files listed. And I can't find how to change the view format.

That's not normal.  Are the files stored on a NAS drive?

Turn off auto import, just to see what happens.  Tools > Import.

What version are you using?  A newer one may be in a thread near the top of this board.

I am on a Macbook Air, I don't think it's a NAS drive
