What is DLNA?
« on: November 16, 2017, 05:26:36 pm »

I had someone ask a question about DLNA today.

There is a DLNA topic on our wiki:

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DLNA

There are usually three parts, and these are usually but not always on three devices.

DLNA Server -- has the media files
DLNA Renderer -- plays the media files
and
DLNA Controller -- controls playback

In baseball terminology,

the server is the pitcher
the renderer is the catcher
the controller is the coach sending signals
AndrewFG is the umpire

The controller tells the others what to send, the renderer plays it.

OK, that's a terrible analogy.  Anyone have any other sports analogies?

No, it's actually fine, but a small edit:
The controller tells the server what to send, the renderer plays it.
Boom.
