Hello and Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I'm new to JRiver and have downloaded both 32 & 64 Bit versions. My computers are all 64bit Windows 10 (1 Desktop+1 Laptop) and a Synology 411Slim NAS for data and media storage and all of my AV equipment is DNLA compatible and is connected to my network via LAN. I understand that the 32bit version is stable and 64bit is still beta, but since I have not installed anything yet I'm asking the advice of the experts here. My immediate use will be music related as I have some new CD's to rip and plan on a re-rip of 200+ CD's because most were ripped lossy on mediocre equipment. I find Holidays a good time to rip because of the many days of leisure and downtime.

Any tips, ideas and/or thoughts regarding a deep dive into the JRiver... see what I did there ... are greatly appreciated

I'm not an expert but you might as well just get started with the 64 bit. I haven't noticed any weirdness when I switched from 32 to 64. Either version will work for ripping CD's. I'm sorry hear that you need to re-do all those discs.

If you're only going to use MC for audio I believe you can change the interface so there are no video options.

I agree with rec head except for changing the interface to audio only!

Remember to rest your burning drive every few discs as they get hot and can cause errors when extremely taxed and over heated....have fun

Regarding CD ripping suggestions, I suggest enabling secure ripping in MC's options. It'll take longer to rip discs, but it's well worth it.

Cool... 64 bit it is!

rec head... I'm actually kind of looking forward to the rip, because those lossy mp3 rips just don't cut it for me anymore and I'll be able to enjoy my music again.

OM... I never thought about the heat build-up issue. It makes perfect sense.

Awesome Donkey... once I've got everything installed I'll take a look at secure ripping.

Any suggestions on the best file format/bit rate to rip? I'm leaning towards FLAC but if there is something better I'd like to look into it.

rip to lossless format is my advice ... then bitrate is irrelevant ... lossless rips will preserve your original material bit perfect ... 100% exact copy of your source material (only concern is bit rot ... but thats entirely different discussion)

lossless formats include flac, ape, alac, wav ... my personal preference is flac ... cause its open source and in my experience more supported on different platform

you can always convert from one lossless format to another lossless format without quality loss (there are tools that can automate this)

i personally never tried JRiver ripping ... so cannot comment on it ... i use EAC to rip my CDs  ... mainly because it compares my rips to online database to verify that my CD rip is not compromise because of scratches on CD ... not sure if JRiver does that
