One word: Girder

A few more words: Get this and install it - see if there is a plugin for the remotes u mention - it accepts commands from a remote and lets u program it to do whatever u want.

Girder is indeed great, but a little complicated to configure IMHO. I have a Pinnacle remote and it works with Girder (after downloading a plugin for it), but is taking a long time to get set up right. It's also an extra program running, and I like to keep my system as clean and fast running as possible...

I think it would be very nice if JRiver could integrate a Pinnacle (and others) remote plugin into MC to make it easier for us MC faithful. Why only an IRMAN plugin? ?

That would be great!  8)

There's also a UIRT2 plug-in with the 9.0 build.

Either plug-in can be used with any remote.  They can "learn" keys from the remote.

The Creative device is a possibility since it appears to be a "standard" 9 pin serial device. I can't find much information on the Asus IR device and how to access it. Currently we only support IRMan and UIRT-USB. Plus we could update the old X10 RF receiver plugins if there's any interest in them.

When I click to go to the JRiver Plugin site, the only one I see is the one for   IRMAN - 2.0.14 .

Should I be looking somewhere else for this generic Remote plugin?

Can't wait to try it out! BTW: Does it work with MC9.1 beta?

Thanks alot,

JohnT: The Pinnacle remote is also a standard 9-pin serial device (that came with a Pinnacle PCTV). Could this be supported natively (via plugin) in MC9.1?

Thanks,
Kwake

We don't have a generic serial plugin at this time. It could probably be done if there's enough interest in it (which it sounds like there might be).

Woohoo, that would be GREAT! Do you recommend I start another 'poll' type thread, or were you thinking of going ahead based on the feedback in this one?

I have no idea how many MC9 users have the Pinnacle, but I imagine there are quite a few that have something similar (9pin serial). A generic 'learning' type of remote plugin would be greatly appreciated I'm sure!  :D

Please and thanks!

Research the Creative remote carefully. I bought a Creative remote a while back and it would only work with certain programs, was not compatible with Girder, and the receiver would only work with the Creative remote, not a regular programmable/learning remote.

That product might have since been discontinued... it was a little credit card sized flat remote. But anyway, do your research!

Can you please do that, as there are quite a lot of these remotes out there and the MJ8 plugins worked well with even the newest version of the X10 remotes.

Well I ordered one (CIMR100) so we'll see how it works out. The price was a little misleading: $14.88.  I thought it would be a nice cheap alternative to the IRMan until I actually got to the order page where there was a $5.00 "handling" fee plus a $7.43 shipping charge. Turned out to be about the same price as IRMan.

How did it work out with the CIMR100? I just got one very cheap and it would be great if I could control MC with it...
